Installation ID???

Ok, I recently installed a new motherboard, and details aside I need to re-activate my version of windows (vista). So I phone up Microsoft and talk to their robot/indian guy and both ask for an “Installation ID” which is 6 digits long, to continue. I have my vista key, and something called a product ID (neith of which are accepted), but nothing like installation ID. Has anyone else been through this? Or know where/what this install ID is? Much thanks.

God I hate tech support. :meh:

Is that the thing the activation process gives you when you tell it you are doing this over the fone? (I’ve always activated over the net so am not too sure.)

I think it might be. But I am not given any #'s with my ‘HP’ activation process. just the error code for key already in use.

Well there’s the problem then - it’s HP…
:stuck_out_tongue:

Oh how I love my university & MSDN academic alliance, free basically unlimited windows licenses.

Can I have sum windows 7 keys pl0x?

So I guess this # is one you get from TRYING to activate with windows’s software. but hp’s software dosnt give one out. hp=fail. format C:\ commencing.

You only get 2 keys for Windows 7 Professional, no other versions. One 64 bit key, and one 32 bit, but you can interchange them.

Can I have your 32bit key? I only have 2gigs of ram anyway.

Nah, one is for my laptop, one is for desktop. There are cracks left right and center, go find one.

I know about cracks, I want official M$ updates dammit.

It’s okay though as long as you’re using them.

Maybe I won’t, just to spite you.
