Image on my icon

I cant say for certain how long this has been like this, but it is getting annoying. There is an image on top of my desktop icons. All of them. It looks like a little cd in a folder or something.

Does anyone recognize what or why this is and how I get that OFF so that I can actually see the whole real icon?

Isn’t that the new logo for a ‘shortcut’? As in, you created a shortcut to the application elsewhere instead of copying the actual application icon to your desktop? I know on XP it’s the little arrow but I would assume with the new theme of Vista and 7 that they changed that symbol as well? [I could be 100% wrong]

That’s the shortcut mask. It is by default an arrow and has apparently been replaced in your case. It is a file located somewhere deep in the windows directory. I’m sure there will be someone helpful enough to give you a precise location and filename and attach the default version of the file.
Since I have WinXP I can’t really be of any more help…

@victus: I re-e-e-eally doubt that Win7 would have such a lame shortcut mask by default

but jeewiz it takes up half the icon. anyone know if there is a way to change how windows 7 shortcuts icons look like?

  1. Find the file
  2. Replace it with whatever you like
  3. ???
  4. Profit

I’m tired of all these motherfucking images on my motherfucking icon!

lol!

Yes… it was the overlay arrow. I installed “UltimateWindowsTweaker” so that I could tell it to shut that schtuff off.
