If you really wanna know who G-Man is...

DID ANYONE HEAR THAT HALO REACH IS COMING OUT FOR THE PS3 AND WII?

ALSO GEARS OF WAR 2 IS COMING OUT 4 DA PC!!!

-_-

Spam the thread much. That wasn’t a question.

Yeah I’m not quite sure what he was getting at there. If it was some sort of sarcastic joke it was quite obscure

Maybe G-man is your Dad.

i was wondering if g-man is gordons dad then is g-man also the father of sheperd from half life op?

No, because that would mean that they’re brothers.

Dude,this is not F.E.A.R.

G-Man is Gordon’s mother.

:fffuuu:

G-Man being Gordon’s dad makes no sense in the storyline and you know it. Personally, I think, since he mentioned how he admired people who could survive regardless of all odds, I think that he strummed up Black Mesa to purposely bring the Combine to earth, and to pick certain people from Black Mesa to do all his dirty work for him.

Whoever survives the longest and does the most significance in Black Mesa gets the job. In this case, Gordon Freeman for defeating Nihlianth and closing the portal to XEN, and Adrien Shepherd for defeating the Gene Worm and closing the portal to the Race X homeworld. Barney Calhoun, Gina Cross and Colette Green, however, did not do anything of this type of significance and, therefore, did not capture the G-man’s interests.

Gordon already performed the mission the G-man intended for him, starting the uprising, and so the G-man put Gordon back into stasis, only to be interrupted by Vortigaunts who think the G-Man is harming Gordon, thus interfering with the G-Man’s plans. It’s possible that the G-Man wanted the Transmission Packet to be sent out about the Boriallis in order to distract the Combine’s forces long enough so he can mount a full scale attack on the Combine Homeworld.

If Gordon were the G-Man’s son, that would make the fact that the G-man was spying on you throughout the game completly pointless.
This is just my opinion. :3

In HL2:E2, we’re told by Eli Vance that he received the pure crystal sample from the Gman and that the Gman told him to “prepare for unforeseen consequences”. Obviously, the Gman knew this would create the resonance cascade that would bring the Xen aliens and eventually the Combine to Earth. He also clearly works for some government agency and I believe it is the American government circa 1950’s as part of a secret branch with advanced technology in teleportation and time travel but the bureaucracy allows their use in only very specific purposes. Perhaps the Gman was allowed to investigate far into the future where he discovered that the Combine are in control and they discovered Earth because of some unknown reason which he investigates (it turned out to be the “Black Mesa Incident” which occurred regardless of his actions but perhaps was far more unstable without his intervention and would have eliminated all Black Mesa personnel therefore not providing any knowledge to the public of it ever occurring and no accurate date for when it occurred in this timeline). He also hears about the Borealis and the advanced technology that it contains but, because all the best scientists in the world are dead the humans won’t pursue this urban legend and the Combine have no demonstration of advanced human technology and similarly discredit it in this alternate timeline; it is for this technology that the Gman works for.

In order to acquire the technology, he needs some third-party to skirt the boundaries of his bureaucracy and therefore he stages the “Black Mesa Incident” himself figuring that someone that survives it would be the ideal person for the job (he managed to determine exactly what technology produces the resonance cascade by scouting out the technology before the facility is destroyed). This time the resonance cascade is much more stable and allows the possibility for some personnel to survive; the Gman could have been observing everyone and finally took notice of Gordon Freeman and Adrian Shepard due to their incredible abilities to survive. Because Gordon Freeman managed to survive on his own and killed the Nihilanth, the Gman’s superiors allowed him to employ Gordon but because, perhaps, the Gman acted out of line by pressing the button that opened a door, thus rescuing Adrian Shepard from certain death (although the Gman may have been offered a second chance by his superiors and so was authorized to prevent Adrian from reaching the rescue helicopter), he was denied acquiring Adrian.

Because other Black Mesa personnel survived, they managed to create advanced technologies to fight the Combine which the Combine in turn managed to intercept and begin to use for themselves (referring to the local teleport technology) so the Combine have a sense of human technology. But because they also have Black Mesa personnel working for them like Dr. Breen and Dr. Mossman these scientists have worked toward creating a device to create a super-portal thus eliminating the need to hunt for the Borealis technology. The Gman sends Gordon to destroy this technology, thus leaving the remaining Combine on Earth isolated so their only hope is the Borealis technology. The vortigaunts immediately interfere with Alyx’s imminent death and the Gman’s retrieval of Gordon, much to the Gman’s dismay. When Alyx and Gordan learn that the Combine are sending an information packet to the other side the Gman may realize the significance of this and asks Gordan to see Alyx “safely to White Forest” with the message “prepare for unforeseen consequences” (the Gman may have looked to the future and realizes that Alyx plays a significant role in finding the Borealis technology so that her survival is necessary rather than simply the survival of her data storage device and that the technology is used, producing “unforeseen consequences”). The data packet on Alyx’s data storage device is thus used to prevent the super-portal from being opened from the other side, ensuring that the remaining Combine forces on Earth are isolated and that Alyx and Gordan can travel to the Borealis with as little trouble as possible. Now the Borealis technology can be acquired by Gordon and the Gman can proceed to observe it’s use and finally confiscate it.

Maybe the G-Man is Gordon’s mom AND dad

If G-Man would be connected to Gordon (which I find unlikely), then my thought would be that he is Gordon’s subconscious or something like that. Maybe Gordon’s world is what the G-man dreams. (Since he totally can do whatever he want to Gordon)

Anyway, I don’t really know if I want to know who G-Man is.
I think I’m better off not knowing, since it could disappoint me, or well, it could be great aswell. BUT, knowing who G-man is, would probably mean a end of the story and creating more games in the serie.
Half-Life is the best game-series I know, and it would make me somewhat sad to know that the fun is over.
And to be honest, I don’t see why Valve would tell us who G-man is, don’t they make A LOT of money on Half-Life?
How many best-seller did Half-life get?
What’s next anyway? City 17 MMORPG?

If Gman could do whatever he wanted to Gordon, then wouldn’t that make Gordon Gman’s subconscious? Which makes Gordon not real. So how would you explain Vorts taking Gordon out of Gman’s clutches so easily?

Why do I even come back to this place haha

Never thought of that :freeman:

I think were all over thinking this, but i love the idea that spambana wrote

I thank you - finally I feel the love…

What I figure the facts to be is this: when Half-life was developed it was most likely intended to be a stand-alone title but with the possibility of a sequel like I believe is true for most games. The story for it was written like a horror story with a scientific research base reminiscent of Area 51, which is shrouded in speculation of government activity in alien technology. Because of all this and the fact that the character’s file name is “Gman” it is clear to assume that he was intended to be a “Government man” who evokes the same eery speculation of being the cause of the trouble in the game as people do in reality.

Once Valve realized there was such anticipation for a sequel they began to expand on the original simple plot and effectively created far more complexity in the story. The Gman was kept just as mysterious as before to evoke the same speculation. Not until E2 do we learn more about the Gman although that still isn’t much. Valve could know as much about the Gman as we do; they have “limitless potential” to craft his story anyway they choose but for now they most likely haven’t decided on anything - perhaps they never will.

This thread has already been answered

That thread along with this one is all merely speculation which means none of it is a definitive answer. Also the multitude of spelling and grammar mistakes and the poor organization of many of those ideas confused the hell out of me…

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
