If you made Black Mesa

I’ve noticed that there are more and more threads about stuff that isn’t related to Black Mesa at all, which is probably due to the fact that everything has already been talked about.

However, I’m pretty sure we are all fans of the Half-Life series, so we tend not to mention things we would like to change about Half-Life.

The question: If you were in charge of developing Black Mesa, and you would take a more liberal approach to it, what would you change, add, or remove from the original game?

You would not exactly be making a faithful Half-Life remake, but rather a variation of Half-Life tailored to your personal taste and ideas.

For example:
What chapters or sequences would you completely remove, or make longer?
Would you add any Race-X aliens from Opposing Force?
Would you add any weapons?
Would Xen change a lot?
Change, remove, add any completely new aliens? Maybe from other games?
Anything from the Half-Life 2 series?
Combine everywhere.
Also the Black Ops would be in bikinis.

I’ll wait to see if this are serious thread or this are joke thread. Skae begins with joke thread but I’ll wait to see how others take it.

strippers everywhere
also the black ops would be naked. :3

And Gordon says things like “Groovy”. Also, mirrors?

The whole game would be a single map. Everyone would play at 2 fps but at least there would be no loadings between levels and that’s awwright.

You need a better computer.

You need a better brain lol.

id like the game as it is but if i wanted to have some lols i would add a gravity gun :stuck_out_tongue:

In the words of Ross Scott: Grappling hook.

I would take BMS, and then try to recreate it within the limits of the old goldsrc engine just for laughs:retard:

lol… don’t expect serious threads… ever

If is it me making Black Mesa, I would follow the original concept and add something that still considering as canon, for example: Original Soldier icon, Glock 17c texture, fully automatic of it, weapon animation the base on original half-life and MP5SD with M203(I know it isn’t exist).

I would remove the jumping puzzles…
I hated those

Then why you have Ezio for your avatar?

um… because there’s a difference between jumping puzzles in a third-person, open-world freerunning game and unprecedented jumping puzzles in a fairly linear FPS?

EDIT: just changed avatar anyway, felt like it

 • the guards & scientists would have a lighter blue shirt & the guard(& zombie) vest would have stitches in the same pattern as the original barney model.
 • the zombie security guard wouldn’t be dark & crusty looking hands, but wet & bloody like the scientist zombies.
 • the scientists would wear gray pants instead of brown & the labcoats would be a lot less wrinkled.
 • Kleiner’s hair would be a bit more volumetric & Eli would be clean-shaven.
 • keep the same suit texture gman has in HL2.
 • remake the Robogrunt model for deathmatch & hide a aperture science logo on it somewhere.
 • keep the classic c1a0 lobby look as seen in the gman sequence in ep2_outland_02.
 • keep the gargantua’s hands as hunter-like mandibles instead of 3-fingered claws.
 • make the bullsquid tentacles less claw-like & give it a flamethrower-like acid spray attack for medium range.
 • the houndeye body & eyelid thinner with consistently-sized photoreceptors & brighter skin.
 • reuse the HL2 magnum, crowbar & shotgun models, sounds & animations, changing only the textures. Same thing for the Retinal Scanner from HL2.
 • the baby headcrab consistently whiter & slimier looking.
 • have the MP5 & snark look glossier.
 • the HEV Suit helmet look more like the low-def model’s chemical hood & less like the high-def model with a motorcycle helmet.
 • keep grenades & sentries grabbable with the use key & satchels go back into the inventory when used.
 • I would remove the zoom function from the Magnum.
 • rename all the maps before compiling so they’d be easier to read through when trying to pick them via console.
 • make a zombie soldier, no different than regular zombies except for more health & I’d introduce them somewhere in On A Rail.
 • I wouldn’t make the gargantua invincible unless flagged to be, that way ones in custom maps & spawned via console can die from regular explosives.
 • maintain realistic movement physics in both single & multiplayer.
 • have Dr. Magnusson the scientist doing CPR at the beginning of Unforseen Consequences.
 • I would tone down the camera-tilting caused by strafing, but add some for turning while sprinting, like leaning into the turn.
 • make the grenade, slam & satchel limited to 5. RPG & smg-grenade limited to 3.
 • keep the original alien grunt body shape/proportions, use an ep2 vortigaunt-like texture, make the armor shell-like protrusions in the skin, maybe a touch of iridescence.

I know that’s mostly aesthetic stuff, but I can’t really think of anything else I’d do differently from the dev team, since that’s most of what we’ve seen.

They are nice to have every once in a while & can be found on plenty of other websites.

^This.

Me, I’d add loads of motion blur, and amp up the quake-style bobbing to the most heinous level. I’d also have it so you can decide whether you want the weapons on the right, left, or center of the screen.

And dramatic death animations for npcs like in Left 4 Dead.

i wouldnt create bms. i would create the veiny dick chronicles - https://forums.blackmesasource.com/showthread.php?t=6297

No Motion Blur on vision, but individual motion blur!

No loading screens would be impossible because of the way the source engine is built.

They need to upgrade hammer. :frowning:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
