I5 2500K Overclocking

Overclocked to 4.2ghz, no problem, stable, and runs perfectly.

4.5ghz, increased voltage, and core 2,4 keeps crashing. I kept increasing voltage until I got to about 1.37V, and that is the point where I was like

“FUCKIT, I AM NOT GOING TO BURN OUT MY CPU FOR EXTRA 0.3GHZ”.

Got any ideas why this aint working? (cores crash when running prime95, think it’s related to vdroop)

Don’t worry about the temperature though, I have a coolermaster V6 keeping it at 65 degrees Celsius under full load.

Because not all chips are capable of being overclocked that far. 4.2GHz is plenty.

Actually, i5 2500K is VERY capable of going up to 4.5GHz.

The RAM…?

8GB DDR3.

Well derp… the speed itself and how many sticks you have is the big thing that matters really
[color=Black](no idea what I’m talking about, going to bed)

I have 2 4GB sticks. I told you the speed.

Just because someone else’s i5 2500K can get up to 4.5GHz doesn’t mean yours can. No two chips are identical. And it could also be the same ‘issue’ with the motherboard.

Well, I am pretty content with my i5 right now, now all we gotta do is troll here inb4lock.

Or we could let the thread die like all other obsolete threads…?

No, you never said the frequency
1333, 1600 …
Looks like you have no idea what you are doing

…If you’re content with it in the first place… then… Why…

Don’t we already have enough threads like that…

If by threads you mean the entire Black Mesa forums, yes.

This. Google, read articles, learn what each BIOS setting does, and maybe try a forum dedicated to the subject instead of BM forums. For example, my personal favorite (where I learned a lot about overclocking) - https://www.overclock.net/.

Thanks for actually giving some viable tips!

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
