I am making a mod.

Ok, Now i am requesting help of people who wish to make a mod, The more people the better, we are on our way to developing a story-line, and I will start making a simple map tomarrow.

I am accepting help in ANY of the ones that only have me, or none. ESPECIALLY TEXTURING.

So are you going for a robot who has a problem that makes him turn against humans, or a military super robot who beats the shit out of errbody.

Well, Thats what I’m asking you, But if it is against humans… I need major modeling and animations support, I don’t have the experience to create the animations required to make a walk/jog/run look good enough, which is why the main character is limited to being a robot at this point.

I don’t really understand what you want us to help you with?
We can’t teach you how to use SDK on our own.
Go on YouTube and watch a tutorial or read up on the Wiki, then come back and ask questions after you’re more experienced.

Lol-cakes, STORY-LINE and if someone actually wishes to attempt to create a mod, THEN you could help in that way, but currently i just need ideas for the game, maybe model input the same way the community projects were done. Anything other than that is my game. I’m not asking: How do you turn it into an RPG? Theres tuts for that and I’m reading them. I have 5 years experience with the source engine, I know more than enough to begin.

Sorry for double post, but its better than a new thread. Ok, Real help question, Can anyone here tell me how you would go about creating a file cabinet that when shot would release the drawers of the cabinet? I was thinking gibs, but I don’t want them to fly out, but just stay. Should i make the physics models of the gibs interact?

Like a lot of people that play source games, I tried my hand at a couple mods, but they all failed miserably. I’m not saying you shouldn’t try to make a mod, but don’t start right in on the hard parts, be sure you know what you’re making before you make it, that’s what i always did. your post kind of sounds like you are getting ahead of yourself, be sure to sit down and really work out a story and a path to follow, characters, events, mechanics, don’t just “go for it” and make some shapeless game that looks like every other one. wanna know why valve does so well? storyline. just my two cents.

Making a mod is a huge task, as you might notice that BMS has been in development for a while.
Before you get to the fun part such as fleshing out the storyline, setting and characters, you need to study, study and then do more study on how to use SDK.
Untill then it is mostly pointless trying to do anything else.
Just write down your creative ideas somewhere and read them again when you have learnt how to re create them in game.

Also you cannot expect everyone to jump in and help you in your mod when you have nothing to show, and little experience.

Good luck

I love having to say it 3 times, I have ample experience with source sdk, and I’ve absorbed all of the base knowledge required. I have someone now helping with the story line. I could in most cases build this mod ALONE, it would be a better and more interesting game with help though.

Edit: To the guy who thinks about the shapeless mod idea thing, I’ve already designed models, textures and interesting implementations for the game, No code edits yet though. So, in 2 months or so i should have the first minor chunk of the game in place.

Well he isn’t asking people to start modeling and mapping, just contributing random ideas.

What is the basis of this mod anyway? Storyline? A description of the first five seconds isn’t enough.

“What I need from you:
-Ideas for setting, storyline, and company name.”
Yeah… Quoting the top of the page… I don’t have a story line yet, But i do have someone helping me now. And the Official Name is decided (in most part) wont release it just yet.

The robot must have a jetpack.

I haven’t really gotten to play source mods that do jetpacks. That could be cool.

It could also allow interesting heights to be achieved within the map, maybe depending on the AUX power system valve has in place. If its mostly indoor then this could definately be implimented.

Ah sorry, my bad. I was reading at tafe and was sneeking peeks at everyone’s posts while my instructor was distracted.

Well in that case it all sounds awesome

I’d like to see some screenshots of your work!
That is unless, you wish to adopt BMS’ style of media coverage right from the beginning :stuck_out_tongue:

Lol, Nah I have 3 members other than myself currently on the team thanks to these forums. I will have media coverage of anything I do, and a moddb page will be up eventually.

Idea for the company:

Baron Technology Incorportated (BTI)
They specialize in; Computer Graphics cards (optional), Robot assistants, and Military robots for use in dangerous warzones such as minefields and supermarkets (the supermarkets part is optional) They also make security technology and a new form of assault rifle.

You might be better off making a multiplayer mod, and focusing on the gameplay mechanics. Without a full team, your going to be limiting your self heavily when it comes to single player.

Nah, I don’t really care, I’m doing this mod. Even if it takes 10 years.

Then friend, good luck with the mod and be creative.

I’m wonder if anyone on here could help me with the source code of SDK, Generally loading the position x,y,z of the character, and changing the position.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
