Bit Torrents are ewwwww. A release on STEAM would be best. If not an FTP or uploaded to newsgroups would work.
ooh, better idea, send black mesa in random 10 MB parts to different members Email accounts. and them let them play a giant game of black mesa jigsaw puzzle.
Sell it to Gizmodo for $5,000.
i c wat u did ther
Torrent would probably be the best option for release.
It’s fast, and there wont be any web server crashing :3
^This^
torrent is without doubt the best alternative,i know a lot of people who frequent the forums will upload with their fancy 60mb connections 24/7 and even if they don’t we would still get 300-600 KB p/s just by the peers
which will download the 14gb archive (as stated before by the devs) in like…
opens calculator
8 hours,at 450 KB p/s
also,this
would be highly unlikely that a web hosting service would allow 14gb files, you would have to download 100 or more parts with 1 hour waiting time between them :fffuuu:
I would send by email to all forum users 10mb fractions of the complete mod that need to be put together in order to be able to have the complete mod. It would be a massive one month forum game where all the forum would need to contribute in order to obtain all fractions and form the game.
:retard:
Now seriously, the best way for me would be a steamworks supported release with incorporated steam.
That or torrent.
For free, with the following URL: https://www.blackmesasource.com/downloads/blackmesa.rar
And announce the release unofficially in this thread, then officially in the news and on the main page a month later.
Invite everyone to a out of the way super hidden island, and launch 42959325 pounds of nucl- FIREWORKS! That’s what I mean! Fireworks… yeeeaaahhh…
Except that everybody would quit the instant they finished downloading.
Funny semi-related story: I was once downloading something through a torrent (don’t remember what it was, just that it was big), and it got to 99.99% done and stopped. I checked the swarm, and NOBODY, out of the probably 40-odd people I was connected to, had that one single tiny little 0.001% piece.
Punch cards on carrier pigeons.
In a cloud of spores.
It’s even more funny the third time you said it.
I would burn the mod to a DVD that would be specially cut to look like the saw blade from HL2. I would then fit them in a special disc shooter gun that would be shaped like the gravity gun.
I would track down the most prominent members of the forum and shoot them in the chest with the discs. (if the mod was big enough to need 2 DVDs, then I’d just shoot them twice) To complete the effect, yes, I would be dressed as Gordon Freeman.
Whoever actually managed to survive the assault would then need to wash the blood off the disc and hope it didn’t break, and then risk the saw shaped DVD ripping apart the drive in their computer in order to gather the files together and then distribute as they see fit.
Finish it, release it in december of '09
Release it on servers that max out at 56K speeds, the norm for 1999 when some say the Resonance Cascade happened. Only 59 hours per gigabyte!
Put the file on only 1 server, with the Apache BWLimit mod, and configure that to allow a max of 1 connection at a time at a top speed of 1kb/s
I would create a thread and say that the mod is released, but forget to post the links.
Put it onto 5 discs and bury them at the bottom of the mariana trench. The first one to invent a pressure-resistant submarine wins!
