How to start the Game: all about it!

How do I ACTUALLY launch the game ? I have steam and the SDK, but I can’t find any shortcut ANYWHERE to launch the mod

If you download it and run the installer, just restart steam and it will appear in your library.

Just to add, if you installed it to a different location (such as a different drive) then it will probably not work. You can copy the folder back into the correct SteamApps directory though.

Same problem here. I installed and played the game once. I restarted Steam and it has not appeared in the library. It is installed on the same drive… what am I missing? Is there a shortcut somewhere outside of Steam I can’t find?

Same problem here!
Just gimme da goddamn shortcut on my desktop NOW!!! …jesus…fkn…chrissssst…

Copy the Black Mesa folder into the source mods folder. Worked for me.

I have the same issue (after installing with the supplied .exe).
My Steam is in:
D :\Spiele\Steam
BMS installed to:
D :\Spiele\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\BMS

Neither double-clicking the game in the library, right clicking and select play or creating a desktop shortcut and clicking there seems to have ANY influence at all.
My system is not reacting to this at all.

Just to try, I started Half-Life 2, and that worked perfectly fine.

I’m running Windows 7 64bit on an AMD Phenom II X4 955 CPU, with 8 GB RAM and a Geforce GTX 460. The graphics card drivers have just recently been updated.

If you need any further information - let me know…

Edit: Did it
Okay, I managed to fix it myself. I had to manually install the Source SDK Base 2007 from the Library -> Tools list inside Steam.
I think it was said that Steam should ask me to install it if it isn’t, but Steam didn’t. Nevertheless, manually install it and Black Mesa runs. HOORAY!

Hey Guys,

First of all thank you very much for a great work you have done. This is really an amazing moment.

But…

I cannot see my Black Mesa Source game via Steam. I haven’t used this platform before, so I did install it today. After that I run the newly downloaded BMS. After the installation process finished I used an option “run game” to start playing. Spend 1 very good hour. But right now I cannot run the game. The directory it was intalled into is empty with executable files. On my steam account it is not visible/accessable either.

Could anyone help?

I’m generally new to installing mods on Steam. How exactly do I get the game to launch? I extracted the files, installed the game and installed SDK Source 2007. I remember seeing somewhere on the Black Mesa group discussions page on Steam that I have to move the files to the sourcemods directory but the folder labelled BMS is already in the sourcemods folder. Could someone please help me out?

im in the same boat as you atm, hope my bump will find a answer for the both of us

Same for me as well. I extracted the files and already have source games installed, but not sure where to find an actual “play” option, as it doesn’t appear in Steam, or maybe I need to extract it again, previously had it under sourcemods.

ok i think i did it, i restarted my steam and then it showed up in my library! =D
yay!

I believe the game folder needs to be in your Steam\steamapps\sourcemods folder, and you have to restart Steam to have it show up in your games list. I had it installed in a different directory and I had to move it to make it work.

Yep, had to restart Steam several times, but that did indeed solve the problem!

If you use the installer you don’t have to worry about moving files around. It will place everything for you.

I believe that game (Black Mesa Source) will only show up in your Steam games list if you install it to:
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\BMS (which is the default directory the installer suggests)
I had mine installed to a different folder and couldn’t start BMS until I copied it over to the above directory.
You will also have to restart Steam after you install/move BMS. Make sure you have Source SDK 2007 installed before you restart Steam.

Hope this helps, cheers!

So i d/l the SDK source and when I downloaded the .exe file it runs and at the finish has “run black mesa” but nowhere does it let me save an icon to the desktop to save an icon to go directly to the game. anyone know where I can shortcut this so I don’t have to keep “installing the game” to play the damn thing?

Yeah, I think some people might have had issues with the desktop shortcut…

It should show up in your Steam list of games though if you restart Steam. It will detect any folders in the sourcemods folder as mods.

THANKS! Had the same issue… didn’t realize I just had to restart Steam

Same problem, but RR Steam and all is fine now
