How to start the Game: all about it!

HOW TO LAUNCH BLACK MESA INSTALLED IN OTHER FOLDER THEN STEAM:

Assume you have Steam installed in: D:\Games\Steam
Assume your Steam user name is: Your_Steam_Username
Assume you have game installed in: D:\Games\Black Mesa

To lauch the game in command line you should type:
“D:\Games\Steam\steamappsYour_Steam_Username\source sdk base 2007\hl2.exe” -game sourcetest -steam -game “D:\Games\Black Mesa”

If you are not familiar with command line you can create shortcut on desktop to hl2.exe by finding the file in your system (path can be different depends on when you got Steam installed) and then right click on it, chose sub-menu Sent to then chose Desktop (create shortcut). After you done that, right click on newly created shortcut, chose Properties (properties windows will appear) and then change Target field with launch command from above.

Of course you have to change paths if you got them installed in other folders.

Awesome, that’s exactly what I was looking for. Thanks waste^_^!

yeeeeeeeeeessssSS finally it’s work and i RUN it  but
how can i copy any downloaded data that STEAM has downloaded into my H.D.D ? i mean can i get a backup from every thing that steam downloaded and keep it for myself??! like source SDK base 2007 and others ??
and why it’s crashing in game and have a lot of BUGS !??

tell me if it’s true !
is it right , that the STEAM has downloading some data like SOURCE SDK BASE 2007 to play HL-BM ??is all of this data needed to play good this game with no problem?? i think that’s the reason why this game crashed for ! right??

So I’ve installed Black Mesa and played quite far into the game, but I decided to take a break and now I can’t start the game again.

There are no .exe files and it doesn’t show up on steam, so how do I start the game back up again?

Same issue, forgot to make a shortcut and can’t find the launcher…

Solved. Restart Steam and it’s in your Library!

I forgot that I had a filter applied in my Library and didn’t see it until I listed all games.

Worst case you can go Start>Run

"<steampath>\Steam.exe" -applaunch 218 -game "..\..\SourceMods\BMS"

I installed the game but I have no icons of any kind. So I can even launch the game :frowning:

What am i missing?

Restart Steam and you should see “Black Mesa” appearing in your library (game list) if you’ve installed it.

Sadly, it has not done that for me. Could it be because I installed on not on the drive Steam is currently installed on? Is there any way to link to an .exe or add it to Steam?

Is it installed to here:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\BMS
OR
C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\BMS

Try restarting Steam and “Black Mesa” should appear in your Steam Library (game list).

NOTICE: There are many players who install the game correctly, yet Black Mesa still does not appear in their Steam Library, even after restarting Steam. If you are in this situation, I posted instructions on Reddit that explains how to get Black Mesa to run. You will be required to re-install the game, but it will work 100% of the time. Perhaps my Reddit post should be added as a sticky?

Here is the link to my Reddit post:

Thanks for the tip! I updated the sticky faq with your solution.

Read my instructions here to get this game to run:

https://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/101chk/solved_how_to_run_black_mesa_source_if_the_game/

modify this and create own shortcut

“D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\Steam.exe” -applaunch 218 -game “D:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\sourcemods\BMS”

Thanks guys, this was very helpful

OK, my hl2.exe file is here:

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\lolamuffin\source sdk base”

However, I installed my Black Mesa files to another drive:

I:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\sourcemods\BMS

I’m trying to edit the shortcut to hl2.exe. Exactly what do I put where? This is very frustrating.

Thanks.

Moreover, I’ve tried the command line option:

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\lolamuffin\source sdk base\hl2.exe” -game sourcetest -steam -game “\Games\Black Mesa”

That doesn’t work either.

Read original post, no quoted one. Quoted post can be misleading because drive letter “D” and “:” has been changed to smiley icon.

-game have to point to place where are your Black Mesa files. If you installed it on drive I, you should place full path in there starting with drive letter.
Something like this:

"C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\lolamuffin\source sdk base\hl2.exe" -game sourcetest -steam -game " I:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\sourcemods\BMS"

Should work if you got Steam installed correctly. If you got some issues with command line read all post again and try second option described in there (with desktop shortcut).
