How the fuck do you pronounce "BETA"?

Okay this is annoying the shit out of me, a quick google lead me to a thread filled with confused uk’s and americans, so how do you guys pronounce it?

More of a Bei followed by a short Ta. Go to the pet store and ask about beta fish.

You can over-pronounce it if you want but it’ll just make you look slimy

It’s “Bay-tah” in American English, “Bee-tah” in British English.

EDIT: See this portion of Portal’s “Still Alive” song for the American pronunciation.

@Ramirezoid: Those are “betta”, not “beta”. And those are pronounced like “better” only with an “tah” sound at the end.
