I defrag whenever I think it’s slowing down my games
I defrag every night before bed. It helps me sleep.
Rule of thumb for me is if it is 10% fragmented. There are a lot of programs out there that will (in the background) try to keep data on your hard drive in an unfragmented state. It’s quite useful. I haven’t had to do a manual defrag in ages.
Also don’t use virtual memory. If you have more than 8GB of ram it just isn’t justified.
I’m an SSD user, don’t know what defrag is anymore.
Don’t they still cost a million dollars per gig?
NTFS does still fragment everything, SSDs don’t change that.
Once a year or something I defrag my Mac HD for shits and giggles.
It’s fairly useless considering the fact that OSX handles fragmentation a thousand times better than anything pre-Win7, but still. Nostalgia and all.
It’s completely irrelevant using an SSD, in fact, defragmenting just reduces the lifetime of the drive.
On a Mac? Just like rebooting: never.
I always forget about defragging. I just reinstall Windows every year or so.
I use Defraggler pretty often to keep frangmentation in ~1%. Win7 auto defrag should be on, but I don’t really trust in it.
I turned autodefrag off to save system resources. I should probably defrag one of these days.
Every time when my computer decides to run slower than before. Happens approx. every 14 days.
I defrag once a week or two, but I also use ccleaner and auslogics boostspeed to keep my pc smooth and fast.
Back in '06 I guess, before I moved to Vista approximately the last time I defragmented.
Also that was the last time I formatted my HDD. Once I updated to windows 7 all the files I had from Vista were still there (and still are). When I got my new hard drive (WD black 2TB )
I did 1:1 copy from the old HDD to the new one. So I still have my old files from '06 I plan to format once I get a new SSD.
That’s very interesting. Lots of mixed reviews though.
I don’t remember the last time I defragged. I suppose maybe I should as I have deleted probably 100gigs worth of information over the past month and then refilled the spots and am ready for more deleting again. Although I haven’t noticed any change in performance at all so I probably won’t defrag.
Yes, it does have a lot of mixed reviews, but it does show that SSD’s are coming down in price. It just takes one company to start the price lowering.
A good clean format every year is the way i go :x
