how far is black mesa

hi there i am new to black mesa and half-life and
i want to know how much of the story is included and what is missing or if its complete because i havent really played the original hl(i got to a few parts after you receive the shotgun) and i would rather play the black mesa version so yeah if you could just tell me whats covered already and if anything wont be covered

It lacks the last chapter and some of the middle chapters lack entire sections.

I actually recommend playing through the original game first btw. Makes you appreciate the work put into the mod more.

To be specific, On a Rail has been heavily cut down, half of Surface Tension is glaringly absent, and the Xen levels are yet to be added.

I don’t miss the cut parts of on a rail, to be honest.

No one did. I didn’t miss the cut stuff in Surface Tension either. They’re great, but they woulda bogged BMS down for sure.

I don’t miss the OaR stuff, but the Surface Tension cut was very jarring.

For me it’s about 1,395 miles. :retard:

Someone should actually count the number of steps required to complete Black Mesa. If that’s even possible…

Perhaps analyze the footstep audio of Gordon as he walks. :stuck_out_tongue:

Portal has a step counter, but I’m not sure if Valve ever released it’s source code.

Regardless, I’m sure if someone was interested enough, once BM releases their source code it’ll probably be possible to do.

But it would vary greatly depending on the play style and choices of the player . It 'd be cool to know though haha

Well usually step count for things is based only on taking the quickest route through. For the difference it makes you could godmode and ignore the enemies.

Funnily enough, it’s the opposite for me. While BM did a good job of cutting them away seamlessly, and I loved ST in the original, I missed the scenes in OAR more. It has a reputation for being the most dull and least loved chapter, but for all that I love it. Might have something to do with it being the chapter on screen the first time I laid eyes on the game, though.

Balck Meas Sauce is about se7en long! :retard:

I’d love to do a “how far does Gordon go in Black Mesa” test if there was a way to do it.

If there is a way, let me know and I’ll do a run through it with GOD and NOTARGET mode on.

It bothered me because it messed up the flow of the story. In HL1, the military felt like they were gradually getting beat back as you progressed. In BM, they’re in near-complete control one minute, and the next pulling out for no clear reason.

While I agree that that is a bit jarring, I don’t miss the cut sections at all. The ones in ST did help add some depth to the story, but they weren’t particularly fun to play.

My least loved chapter was Blast Pit, but BMS fixed that for me x) hated BP in the original.

They really nailed QE as well. Instead of anything notable missing, they added quite a bit, both in content and depth. That designer knew what he was doing and it shows.

Stormseeker will be flattered to hear that

I think I am the only one in the universe that didnt want anything cut and who actually missed the pieces that were not included.

But everyone knows I am a BM freak anyway so it is all good.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
