Original Halflife: Awesomeness, but the Xen stages (sans the Gonarch battle) left a bitter taste in my mouth. Nowadays the engine feels quite dated so returning to the game kinda breaks the nostalgia. 8/10
Opposing Force: I actually preferred this to the original, ignore that many of the story elements are non-cannon (though I don’t see why they shouldn’t be as they don’t contradict anything more than Valve contradict themselves)… It had some really imaginative weaponry, and as was said earlier on with unfavourable response: The wrench>the crowbar (it had more of a sense of weight behind it, and I continued to use it even after getting the combat knife)! 9/10
Blueshift: it features some great moments but the lack of awesome new weapons, boss fights or real sense of accomplishment (as well as a really short length) hold it back from greatness. 6/10
Decay: I really enjoyed playing through decay, and it seemed to tie in closer to the originals story than most of the other spinoffs, and I really liked the spin that playing with a friend had on the gameplay, but the disjointed nature of the levels kinda ruined the immersion. Still, the bonus level where you play as a Vort at the end was excellent! “THIEVES, YOU ALL ARE THIEVES, YOU ALL ARE!”. 7/10
Halflife 2: A deep story, great gameplay and lots of variation in location and playing style (with the strategy of using antlions and rebels, and the vehicle sections!) plus epic setpieces… this game rose the bar, but I did feel like it was more of a showcase of the havoc engine than a game at times. 9/10
Episode 1: an enjoyable experience, focused on set pieces and the ability to play through the entire campaign only firing one bullet was a nice novelty, but from a story perspective it seemed pretty directionless (though it did bridge between HL2 and episode 2 quite well). The lack of variation in environments annoyed me a little. 7/10
Episode 2: The story was kicked up a notch and the setpieces really got back on form… the welcome return of bossfights and awesome weapons made this one of my favourite entries of the series to date, plus I really liked how they tied the portal franchise and halflife franchises together. It also added a lot more mystery to the G-man. Win. 10/10
now… I can picture Black Mesa being another 10, assuming it follows all of the setpieces of the original… from what Ive seen so far, it looks like its on track!

Unfortunately I haven’t played Ep 1 and Ep 2 but I will score them when I do!
How about we focus on other games’ awesomeness?
I mean, what’s the point in this thread other than tongue bathing Valve’s crowbar? We all know we love Half-Life. We don’t need every single thread dedicated to how awesome it is.
I’ll start
Mass Effect (PC): 7/10
On the XBox 360, it’s easily a 10/10. On the PC, it’s a great game with bad sound. While the game is for the most part a polished port, complete with an upgraded combat and inventory system, the stuttering sound (and that includes music and weapon sound effects) all but ruin the experience. It’s been over a year since the game’s release and there has yet to be a patch to fix this.
But I’m able to deal with it, but it’s still annoying. Hopefully the guys that are given the task to port Mass Effect 2 to the PC won’t suck.
STALKER: SoC: 8/10
A Russian Fallout 3 meets Call of Duty is a good way to sum up this game, and it works. The game is very fun, refreshingly difficult, and the 2009 mod adds to lot to the immersion of the game. Worth checking out.
Serious Sam HD: 100/10
Fucking awesome! If you do not have this game, you suck. Period. Go back to sucking on your mom’s tits.
SERIOUSLY though, this game is a ton of fun and worth every penny in the $20 you’ll be paying for it.
Well… That was… offensive?
Offensive comments? On my Balck Meas Forums? Its more likely than you think!
How was my comment offensive?
Douchebaggy? Sure. Elitist? Maybe. But offensive? Pffft…
