Ok, from my Biology knowledge I must say that Xen appears to be in outer space… therefore that probably is an anus and not a gill or air breathing apparatus.
Furthermore, there are species on planet earth (polyp or medusa form of cnidaria) that have a thing called a mouth-anus it is were they poo and eat.
Even furthermore, headcrabs don’t appear to have an anus so it is a possibility that houndeyes evolved from headcrabs or vice-versa.
P.S. medusai (plural of medusa) are jellyfish and polyps are basically sea anemones.
