I was under the impression that the hivehand was a weapon the agrunt wielded, rather than being a part of the agrunt.

Who said they’d have to be symmetrical? Humans aren’t symmetrical. I think akimbo hivehands are just over the top like they’re too big to have two. I don’t imagine Gordon running around with two hivehands.

No it’s not. It’s an item they hold. That’s why the model you find can work separately from them. I’m pretty sure valve has publicly confirmed this too.
Thinking about it more, I can understand the confusion. The Xen factory has the Agrunts popping out of those barrels already wearing the hivehand, as does the Research Lab where you first are introduced to them. (why would the research lab NOT take the Alien Grunt’s weapon from them?) and they only ever hold it in their right hand.
It might be worth considering having it set in Black Mesa so that either the research lab has an Agrunt or two that DON’T have the hivehand equipped, and/or have the Xen factory section actually let you see the process of the Agrunt being equipped with the hivehand and then put into those storage barrels. It would make things a little more clear that the Agrunts aren’t actually grown INSIDE of the barrel.
It would also be nice to see an Agrunt that had the hivehand on the left hand instead of the right hand, but that would actually conflict with the Xen factory idea, since there’s no reason for the factory to mix up which of the Agrunt’s hands it puts the hivehand on.
the hive hand connects with the grunt’s arm in some sort of cellular connection between the two bodies , IIRC it says so in “raising the bar” and ya … other people also said that since it was a separate model it’s not a body part
In HL, it’s a submodel for the Agrunt, like the weapons on the Hgrunt. While it’s never used in the code, it does mean it’s a weapon.

Humans are MOSTLY symmetrical in APPEARANCE, but most humans are right or left hand dominant to at least some extent, so they aren’t symmetrical in their actions.

The Hornet Gun is fine. I just think they should make the fire rate a little bit faster. I would like it if the secondary was one powerful straight shot but that 'aint gonna happen.
