Hornet gun in MP

One day I was playing HL1 multiplayer and suddenly this idea came in to my head. To me hornet gun isn’t a particularily interesting weapon to use in MP because of its randomness: you just spray hornets in all directions without actual aiming and then you can score a cheap kill. What I propose is the mechanism reminiscent of target locking system in guided rockets - before unleashing the swarm of merciless stinging insects on the head of your opponent you will need to hold a crosshair on the enemy for a second or two to lock on.

That’s a very good idea actually, it would certainly make killing other players with it more fun and challenging.

I had originally proposed the suggestion of having a target lock hornet as the secondary fire that had to be fired at an enemy before the regular hornets could lock onto it, but then once the hornet was locked on, it would provide a much better targeting system, similar to having a laser guide for RPG rockets except that once you got the enemy with it, it would stay with them.

“you just spray hornets in all directions without actual aiming and then you can score a cheap kill.”
…except for the part where you get the kill.
Good Idea though, a lock on would be cool.

that would be great! i remeber being killed a lot of times by those in MP without even having a chance to fight back.

Are you claiming that HG is any hard to use? :o

no, I’m claiming it did little to no damage whatsoever. See, I’m used to scientists bunny hopping with gluon guns.

wow, that’s not a bad idea for a newbie.

warm welcomings to the forums

I dont like the idea even its a good idea on the first look.

The Hornets fly very slow and are weaker than everything else. In the lock time (maybe 2 seconds) the hornets begin to fly and … whohooo you shot 4 Hornets (if you had luck) before an crossbow, Gloun gun, Gaus, rpg, or even 5 pistol shots will blow you down in this 2 seconds and … horaaay i did 40 - 50 dmg feel the fear

I prefer hornet camper noobs … They are freekills.

Also the gun is the weakest. Really … whats weaker? The Mp5 maybe but ARgrenades will do its best. I would not like to see a lock on. Slower than slow, not a 100% hitchance, weak hornets, after 8 shots even mor slower … Nobody will use it.

I knew some games, where some weapons have an lock on. The rare are good. The most are crap. Nobody wants to wait before you can shot.

it’s a good idea but they either have to put at least a reserve of 10 (instead of 4) hornets or they should amp up the damage because it was weak …

imo it’s only good for SP when you’re hiding around a corner shooting at soldiers or other weak targets , and besides the soldiers are so dumb they dont even try to go around and shoot you or flank you , idk how that’s going to change with the new AI system but they’re probably going to be a lot smarter than before

There are 8 hornets, not 4.
I’d prefer it the way it is for singleplayer, because then the enemies don’t have to see you for you to kill them.

I can’t see how someone’s join date can at all affect how good their ideas are.

so they’ve changed the number of the hornets from 4 to 8 in multiplayer ? im sorry if this sounds stupid but i’ve never played HL multiplayer

No, it’s always been 8 in both singleplayer and multiplayer.

Obviously he hasn’t played single player either.

no … i remembered it being 4 , should play through HL once more i guess :retard: but still - i consider it to be too weak for multiplayer so it should do more damage imo

It’s definitely 8

erm … i didnt disagree with you in my last post , i guess it just came out wrong , what i meant was that i remembered that they were four (but they were actually 8 )

that “no” was meant for the guy that said i didnt play singleplayer as well , it was just badly arranged with the rest of the post and it sounded like i disagreed

My point was that you disagreed with him about playing only MP.
