Damn this is awesome.
That’s actually pretty cool.
:awesome::awesome::awesome::awesome:
Very good indeed
Everything looks so quick, almost comical. Still, it is pretty awesome!
He needs to work on Episode 3. He just has to.
Also, another piece of work by him.
That’s pretty amazing he got that level of animation out of the old GldSrc engine, even with custom rigs. It does look pretty strange and jerky in places, but the fact he went to all the trouble of adding first person hands and body movement makes up for it. If this was the trailer Valve released for HL in 1998 peoples minds would have been blown even more so.
I posted that like loooooooong time ago.
But yeah, he is pretty awesome animation, a bit cartoony but I don’t mind.
It’s cool and entertaining, but the animation just doesn’t look that VALVE-LIKE. I mean, it’s so cartoony and squishy. It’s a very good job and all but seriously, I’d laugh my ass off if valve used this STYLE of animation in their games. I liked this though and I don’t know shit about 3d animation, how talented this guy really is and what he could accomplish with professional equipment.
I knew some asshole was going to complain about his style and call him unprofessional. I was waiting for it.
Also, he HAS professional equipment. 3ds max is used all the time in the industry.
obviously.
Half-Life is a cartoon game. Have you seen the graphics? this style suits it too perfectly. The way he set up the audio, specifically the music, is gorgeous. Broke my spine.
Pro animators are drab as hell IMO
That was awesome, man.
With professional equipment I meant stuff like motion capture suits and stuff like that. I know this guy does everything “manually” with a mouse. If you’re saying all game developers do animation like this, you don’t know shit either.
And as I said, I don’t dislike his work, I just don’t think this kind of animation fits in half-life (as a response to all the people who said he should work on ep3 etc).
Wow…
You really, REALLY know nothing about animation.
Yes, animators animate with a mouse.
There’s mocap, but in my book, that’s not animation. Yes it fits the definition of animation but more often than not it makes a character look like a guy wearing a thick mascot suit, plus animators aren’t making the movement. Shit, mocap animations usually need a LOT of tweaking by animators afterwards, but they usually never get it. That’s how you end up with Heavy Rain’s fucking ridiculous twitchyness.
Keyframe animation all fucking day.
edit: there’s one exception I can think of with the original Starship Troopers movie. They actually built a miniature armature of an arachnid. They rigged that up to Maya, and set keyframes with a puppet.
please enlighten me
EDIT: For all I know the motion capture can be tweaked manually to make it perfect.
But anyway, my point was that IN MY OPINION this kind of animation does not fit in half-life, was it professional or not. And as I’ve said multiple times, I LIKED IT ANYWAYS. So go rage somewhere else, I’m not here for an internet fight.
EDIT #2: goddamnit stop editing your post
Don’t try to argue with old timer when you are unsure of yourself.
You are enlightened!
Anyways, great trailer.
I didn’t know expressing my opinion and getting viciously attacked was arguing tho
Awessome !!! …especially the moment, when he puts his glasses back on
It’s not that you expressed your opinion. I’m all for that. It’s that you called him unprofessional with little knowledge of not only the basics of animation, but what is considered “professional” in the animation business. It completely depends on the project. I mean, fuck. The dude worked on Fable 3, I think. Plus he’s the head animator for an upcoming FPS called Warsoup (which may or may not be dead).
