HL2EP1: HDR strobing.

Exactly what the title says. My HDR seems to flicker from very bright to very dim repeatedly for no reason. When I stop moving, it goes dim and stays, but if I start looking around, it’ll start flickering again. It seems to have just randomly started up one day and has been doing it since. I’ve had to disable HDR completely to make it stop, but I’d prefer that just be a temporary fix. Anyone know what’s wrong?

The light usually dims according to the amount of light you previously looked at. It effectively emulates real eye as it adapts to different amounts of light. For example, if you look at sun, it should gradually become darker and darker, and then when you suddenly look in the shadow you won’t see a thing and it takes some time for your “eyes” to adapt. The same thing goes when looking from dark to light - when you are in complete dark, suddenly looking directly in a source of light should temporarily blind you.

So I don’t think there is a problem, that’s what it is supposed to do to look more realistic. Try looking in a bright source of light and then look in a shadow and vice-versa. If it adapts gradually according to where you are looking at, everything is okay.

Flickering <> dimming.

Have you tried loading defaults and setting them back again (or just deleting the config file)?

No, I will try that next time I go to play.

that’s a new feature called super HDR, don’t worry you’ll get used to it.
