My entire family was murdered
I think that the connection between the not talking and the cut-scene is very serious and deliberate. Both allow for us, as the gamer, to project ourselves into the character. Gordon not speaking means he never says anything that we wouldn’t say. I know that most of the time while I was playing, if someone said something to Gordon, I answered out loud! Having control in the cut scenes works in the exact same way, Gordon never made a move without us making it for him. The cut-scenes where we couldn’t move, like when the Hunter gets Alyx for example, were done so to exaggerate the feeling of helplessness and frustration of not being able to move, when we normally could have done something.
An interesting subject! Good luck!

I like the fact that Gordon doesn’t speak, it just wouldn’t add anything to the game. It’d get annoying if the voice-actor was anything but godlike as well.
“Don’t you know ANYTHING about SCIENCE?!”
Sorry, had to
meh I hardly ever notice the fixed perspective but it’s a bit annoying when I know something bad will happen (eg. the hunter in ep2) and I have to climb into the building in order to make the game progress. I mean, there’s got to be a better way of solving the problem than letting Alyx get stabbed!
O.o
That should obviously go in the rage thread, stop derailing.
When characters talk to me, I’m always playing a song or movie in my head, that adds to the immersion because I don’t give a flying **** about the resistance, I just want to drive to hawaii and soak in the sun.
Totally worth it though. :freeman:
The pic comes from a site that’s now a parked domain, if you manage to find it anywhere on the internet (except my photobucket) I’ll give you a medal
