HL2 Ep3 plot speculation thread (NO SILLY THEORIES)

The one thing I agree with is that it should be darker. Breen clones, mansions, City 18, romance w/ Alyx, Wolfenstein 3D, the flag, etc- all this is just plain silly (no offense intended).

As I said, you are indeed right about one thing. HL3 should definitely be darker than the HL2 alpha/betas. Both Gabe’s quote about scaring the player and the tone of the ending of EP2 suggests this.

I’ll bet Aperture Labs created something fantastic, and I’ll bet Black Mesa would have starved financially if Aperture had been able to get a DOD contract for it. Whatever is on board the Borealis is undoubtedly something which would scare the pants off us when we figure out how it could be perverted by the Combine into something horrifying*.

We’ll probably see some new enemies. What about buried turrets in the snow which shoot upward? There could be things to catch us off guard completely.

Also, I think having deaf characters seems a little out of place. How well could you really survive in HL’s universe without a sense of hearing?

*If Valve hasn’t figured this part out yet, then they know the true meaning of writers block!

No it isn’t an English class, and yes I am happy you don’t work for Valve you talantless peace of rubbish… no go suck on a Llama tit. :jizz:

Now here is how I hope to see it:
The game starts as Gordon fades in the scene we left at the end of Ep. 2 Alex is grieving, same with Kleiner, Magnusson (yes even him) and everyone else. A brief funeral ceremony happens and the duo are on to the chopper and off for the South Pole. Alex is flying of course. They will need to stop and refuel, possibly find parts to repair some malfunction. Some good action and puzzle solving will be involved before they get the chopper int he air again and on their way. As they get closer to where they are headed, they will get shot or crash land for some other reason. The rest of the way to the Borealis they will have to make it on foot or possibly somehting like a snowmobile they can dig up and fix from an old/abandoned polar research station they come across. Using this vehicle they make it very close tot he Borealis and then the rest of the way on foot. Then the have the usual resistance before they run into Mossmann who is in hiding. She takes them to the ship and shows them what they have found and explains the mysterious technology Eli wanted destroyed. Of course it would not be destroyed, but instead they will plan to use it against the Combine. The use it effectively a trip to Xen/the homeworld would be neccessitated, and Gordon will be sent there, alone. Somewhere in the game somehow we will meet up with Chell. There will be more on G-Man. I really want to see the Combine homeworld. It’d be cool to also run into Breen there that he somehow made it there in a different body so he can survive. I can’t wait to play this sucka!! Just finished Ep. 2 the other day. It’s torture having to wait more for this! The idea of ending up in another Combine controlled city that has not been messed up and is still quite under the Combine control is also cool. Would also love to visit Black Mesa again, the original one that got blown up. Would like to walk about the ruins and some areas that were not quite destroyed, looking for something needed. This will be another continuation of the story but deffinitely not the end of it. There will be HL3, and it will be EPIC! And that’s my ep3 cents…

Half-Life 3 starts with a Gordon’s dream, where he lives again the death of Eli Vance.

After that, he wakes up in the chopper piloted by Alyx, that probably go down by an enemy’s rocket.

The Combine’s elite troops are in the Borealis already, so there is heavy resistence.

In the Borealis, Gordon and Alyx find a teleporter directly connected with Combine’s overworld.

Alyx wants to destroy this technology, but G-MAN appears to Gordon to tell him to use it!

Alyx sends Gordon to Combine’s overworld, after “THE KISS”!

Gordon must find his way to finally join possibly overworld resistence (G-MAN is probably a mercenary “payed” by someone who hates Combine…so resistance).

The final fight is against a boss.

After that, G-MAN appears to Gordon for the last question (like Half-Life 1):

  • never return to home (Earth) but live forever like G-MAN itself;
    OR
  • return to HIS LOVE.

The game will end up with the conseguences of your choice.

The game starts where Episode two left off, and that is in the Whiteforest base. Alyx and Gordon are ready to set off. All this is after the brief funeral etc. Please note that Alyx and Gordon are not headed to the South Pole, but to Siberia. Remember that the game takes place in Russia and the range of helicopter such as that one is insufficient to go all the way to South Pole.
Anyway, a combine rocket (another note, the rocket may be one of rebels, thinking that the helicopter was combine since the rebellion didn’t really have any of their own) hits the tail of the helicopter, causing it to go out of control. You hear a scream and everything goes dark. Chapter one begins, and that is running through the winter desert trying to get to Rebel base. The first weapon you find (except the gravity gun which stayed with you after Episode 2) lies by a corpse, who used to have a pistol and was presumably a rebel medic.

Okay… things I think will not happen… Gordon will not meet Chell. There will be no romance between Gordon and Alyx. It won’t be a simple matter of taking the helicopter. Valve won’t decide to take control from the player unless it’s right before the first instances of the game, like at the beginning of EP1. Also, Breen is dead. He’s gone, he’s done for, he died in the explosion. Get over it, people.

As for Episode 3/HL3:

Let’s not forget that the Combine are aware of White Forest- if Advisors are there then there must be troops and forces there as well. There will probably be some kind of evacuation of White Forest as Combine forces advance. It’s no massive army- it’s whatever forces were accompanying the Advisors. (Enough to be a threat at the time) Scientists like Kleiner and Magnusson will be top priority (and Alyx and Gordon too, obviously). The advisors are probably rushing back to the combine’s current temporary stronghold, or wherever they are safe, since Dog almost killed them.

I do think a “dream” sequence is in order- we see Alyx crying over Eli, and then a fade to black- G-Man might say a few words to us about the Borealis, or overall situation, or something (we can’t really predict what he would say right now). The game will probably start right after that (if the dream sequence even takes place) with Alyx waking Gordon up. We are in the same room we were at the end of episode 2. Gordon was probably asleep for 1-2 minutes (well needed rest, don’t you think?) while Alyx put a blanket or tarp or something on top of Eli to cover him as there is no time for a proper burial.

We see the helicopter- maybe it’s a little damaged after the Advisors killed Eli, or perhaps it’s still flyable. Either way, it doesn’t matter since they’d probably get shot down by advancing Combine forces. Unfortunately they will need to find another way to the Borealis. Alyx will say a word or two about Eli- and then will remark that even though she would like to have some sort of funeral they have to leave before the Combine find them. She’s really distressed and it shows- her dad just died and she can’t even bury him.

As I said, an evacuation is underway. They go back the way the came, or maybe to some other area of the base not yet seen. At this point, I see one of two things. Either:

We meet up with a rebel somewhere, who tells us that the scientists are being evacuated and will be safe. He says he’s here to escort Gordon, Alyx and Eli, and Alyx tells him about Eli. He expresses his regrets, and walks them through some unseen areas of the base. We are taken to a vehicle, and told to meet up with some rebels somewhere before arriving at another base further up north. Gordon and Alyx leave the base.

Or:

We meet up with Kleiner and Magnusson, who are about to evacuate- Alyx tells them about Eli, they express regrets, and mention that they will discuss their plan later. They mention another base up north, and that rebels are waiting to guide them away from White Forest. Then they split up, and a rebel takes them through an unseen part of the base to some vehicles.

At this point, we drive along some kind of road or path away from white forest with the usual puzzles, etc. At one point, Alyx and Gordon reach some kind of small rebel checkpoint- and eventually they reach a base further up north. They have a ways to go to the artic, but some time to prepare without the disturbance of the Combine. On the way to the base, things gradually get colder, and we start to enter a tundra area. By the time we reach the base it is snowing.

Now, it gets harder to predict things at this point, but they probably will talk to Dr. Kleiner at the northern base. He will tell us more about the Borealis, and there will be a discussion (why did Eli not approve, etc.). After this, Alyx will leave for a few minutes to think things over (remember she’s human, and Valve wants her to be more than a “bullet spitting robot” ), and Kleiner will tell Gordon some more information (whatever he knows about the G-Man, if anything- maybe some more info about Black Mesa, or the overall story, etc.) We might even talk to Barney during this time.

Overall, the northern base will serve as a good point for some catching up. It will not be as big as White forest- perhaps it goes deeper underground.

So, this would be approximately the first half of the game if it’s episode 3, and the first third (or quarter?) if it’s HL3. The second half (if episode 3) or quarter would be making your way to the Artic, somehow. There might be some new modes of transportation here we have not yet seen. There’s not much more I can say at this point, but I suppose it would involve the usual speculation on the Borealis. They certainly won’t be going to the Combine’s home world so soon.

Finally! I am not the only one who thinks HL3 will be a dark survival-horroresque game! By the way, do you think Valve will use that Combine flag?! Like a Nazi style Combine flag and making the Combine appear more Naziish?!

In my opinion in Half-Life 3 we’ll not use Gravity Gun.

Who talked about South Pole?

Remember the light armoured fighting vehicle of Combine? It fires with rocket launcher and pulse machine gun.

I want Gordon to have a long ass beard.

Beards don’t just quadruple in length overnight.

Ha-ha-ha-ha. Very funny.

survival-horror & shooters don’t mix well. Look at Dead Space or Resident Evil 5. Sure, they might have been decent shooters, but they were shit at horror.

That’s so retarded I think you gave me cancer.

I not posted about Nazi-Comby-Flag!

I know it…Gordon will be able to show his hands when he gets a cup of tea!

There, I fixed it.

Gravity Gun will not be included in Half-Life 3 because of a probably new ambient interaction. Seriously, what do you think?

I think an iconic weapon that did its part in separating HL2 from the rest will make an appearance in the next game, as it did the first two sequels.

It’s not retarded. Making the Combine appear more like Nazis is better, because I think that’s what most fans thought of them. I mean how can they be like Communists?! If anything they are very Nazi-ish.

Don’t they teach history in schools anymore?

To be fair, how much did you know about history when you were 12?

They’re from a generation where subtlety is a rarity and everything has to shoved down their throats in a very obvious way or else no one gets the message.

Hey, you just voiced my exact opinion on everybody who thinks Christopher Nolan is God’s gift to Hollywood!

Since it’s so painfully obvious to everyone that they’re supposed to be a fascist regime, adding a flag would be pointless over-kill in delivering that message.

The combine are stranded on earth, trying to reestablish connection with the other worlds & killing-off the resistance. What would they possibly need a flag for? To demoralize the resistance? Bullets would do a much better job at that.
