Help with 1080p

Okay, so my tv is 1080p capable. While the 360 was hooked up via analog, the option for 1080p was clickable, but it resulted in a blue screen which would revert to 1080i.

Today, I hooked my 360 up to an audio/visual receiver with an HDMI cable. Eager to make it 1080p, I opened up the menu, only to discover that hooking it up greyed out the 1080p option entirely. Why is this? What must I do!?

To my knowledge, you need a Xbox 360 Elite with a HDMI Cable to get full 1080P.

Aw well, not that it’s noticeable, anyway…

You don’t need an Elite, it’s just certain HDTVs don’t support 1080P over component cables, so this must be the case in this situation. You’ll need to go with a HDMI cable.

I don’t think any TV will support 1080p through component.

Your AV receiver, how was that hooked to the TV?

Yes, but if you’ll read my post, you’ll see that I was able to select 1080p (though it wouldn’t work) through component. After I connected the HDMI, th option was suddenly greyed out for some reason.

My friend has an xbox 360 and if I remember correctly he uses VGA.

I have the same option on my Xbox 360 Pro, but whenever I try to switch it over to 1080P, the screen goes black and then resets to 1080i.

You’ll be able to select 1080p, but you said it yourself, it reverted back to 1080i. The only way you can get 1080p is through HDMI or DVI. If your AV receiver is connected to the TV via HDMI then you shouldn’t have a problem.

You never cease to amaze me with the redundant, useless posts you come up with.

I’m just saying that maybe you can try to get 1080p over VGA if hdmi/component failed.

1080P over Component is quite possible, it’s just some HDTVs only support 1080P over HDMI.

It did that BEFORE I connected my HDMI, and I understood perfectly well why. I just CONNECTED my HDMI and now the option is miraculously greyed out, whereas in the past I could click it regardless of its workability.

there is only one conclusion, xbox sucks.

Not really. The only logical conclusion that can be drawn is that hi TV doesn’t support 1080P.

What the hell are you smoking mate. What do you mean by “connected my HDMI”? HDMI is an interface and a HDMI cable connects two appliances through this interface. So what was connected to what via HDMI? Xbox to AV receiver was via HDMI? AV receiver to TV was via HDMI? :fffuuu:

Good question…I don;t know myself, as I’m not home. This is coming from my brother…I’ll ask tonight over the phone. I believe the 360 is connected to the receiver via an HDMI cable. But I’m not sure…

But, just to clarify, my TV does support 1080p.

Really, this whole thread is to determine why the option wasn’t greyed out over component but is with the receiver connected.

Well, if you haven’t connected your Xbox to your TV directly, then I suggest trying that next. It sounds like your TV is unable to communicate its EDID through your AV receiver to your Xbox for some reason, therefore your Xbox doesn’t know your TV supports 1080p and grays that option out automatically. As for why it didn’t gray out over component, I’m not sure, but either the TV was able to communicate its EDID, or component doesn’t support that feature and the Xbox leaves the 1080p option open.
