Anyone know a good piano synth program for Windows under $30 or free? Open source projects are ok, too. (And preferred.) Being able to use the keyboard as a piano is helpful, too. I know how to play, so if it requires piano skill I don’t mind.
Piano (n.) - A keyboard instrument that is played by depressing keys that cause hammers to strike tuned strings and produce sounds.
Synthesizer (n.) - One that synthesizes: a synthesizer of others’ ideas. in music- An electronic instrument, often played with a keyboard, that combines.
A piano synthesizer is a piano that can play many other sounds besides the regular, “piano” sound. Often referred to often as just synth or synthesizer, they are used to achieve a wide variety of sounds. There are ones that use MIDIs, ones that use wav sounds, and some that have clips of actual instrumentation for playback upon the press of a key.
Yes, I know what a synthesizer is, I just don’t see what you want from SOFTWARE. Also, how did you figure Black Mesa’s forums would be a better place than google?
I’m looking for a synth-emulation program usable on the computer. There are lots out there.
Google brought up a decent amount of stuff, but it’s mostly stuff you have to buy, so I was hoping someone had tried a program such as this and could make a recommendation based on experience, as I don’t want to buy a bunch to find out which one is best.
EDIT: Thanks, Will! I’ll try that one.
RE:EDIT: I don’t believe it can export to .wav/mp3. Audacity doesn’t handle MIDIs. Although somewhere out there there might be a plugin for that, I don’t have the time to search. I guess I’m on my own unless somebody has another one. Thanks for trying, though.
Garageband, Logic Pro, Adobe Soundbooth (not sure about this last one, but probably through a plugin).
Edit: Oh wait, Windows. Dunno then (well, Soundbooth, still)… But just go buy an M-Audio MIDI controller for something like $120 or so and use its software.
Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
