HECU Marines Uniform Design Not To Canon?

Hey Guys, I just wanna Talk about The Marines’ Uniforms

First Off What’s With the Beret Flash? The HECU always wore this Flash and not this Green Flash as shown in the Media Section, this is the flash they wore in all the Half Life Games.

Secondly, what’s with the Generic Camo? What was wrong with the Original Camo they wore as seen on this texture sheet and in the original concept art?

Um. Boo hoo, the flash is different… your point?

The camo wasn’t really that clear anyway…

Boo Hoo? I wasn’t really complaining, I was just wondering what’s up with the non-canon Flash

As for the camo, it’s very clear on the Texture Sheet as I just provided and you can make out the Camo isn’t a typical traditional marco pattern on the Original models, though the HD models seem to be using a Generic M83 woodland recolor.

There are Harriers and LAVs being used instead of F-16s and Bradleys. Also, all of the cannons and missiles are replaced by TOWs. Instead of a PCV, the HECU get Crye Precision armor. Shotgun HECU soldiers no longer wear ski goggles and balaclavas.

I’d think that those are bigger “breaches of canon” than something as trivial as uniform designs.

Not that those “breaches of canon” are important either.

You’re right, this thread isn’t really about canon, I’m really just using ‘breaches of canon’ as a soapbox to bring up the Original HL1 Splinter Camo and how it would look cool if the Black Mesa Source HECU wore it.

I am sure we are all in favor of the dev team taking another half year while they wait for their texture/moddeler guy to get proper canon gear that is up to the standard of the rest of black mesa and totally turf their current, perfectly good… err I mean, canon breaking camo.

It is a pretty cool camo. not saying it should be in Black Mesa, 'specially at this stage of the game. But still.

As I said, I was simply using the canon issue as a soapbox to bring up the camo

What do you mean ‘at this stage of the game’? There’s still plenty of time to scale up the Camo from the old HL1 texture sheets and reskin the grunts, it isn’t like they have to go back and rip apart each model in order to do it, it’s rather simple operation.

I have no problems with the BM’s version of camo (it’s awesome as is), but the OP brought a good point about the beret flash.

The camo… well, I don’t know about that.

At least the devs kept the color scheme. I like that much. The splinter camo seems strange now that you brought it up.

Maybe I never noticed it in HL because it was so low-res?

And now that you bring up the flash, I do kind of wonder why the devs changed it. It’s obviously not really an issue though.

Yeah, the models in HL1 detorted it like hell even though the texture sheets were pretty clear.

When BM gets released… you can examine a dead corpse of a soldier/marine

The camo was a change for the better. However, I think the flash should be recolored. Besides, it’s not like it’d be that hard. Heck, give me the vtfs n’ shit and I’d do it. :stuck_out_tongue:

you should have complained about the camo 3 years ago, fella

Hell I think the should be sporting a multicam pattern but you don’t hear me bitching about their camo. Also the beret’s flash is an easy fix that you can do post release. get a texturing program then cut and past.

As opposed to a living corpse?

I personally think that what the BM team has done with the soldiers is perfect in every way, if you want an exact remake in the source engine then go play Half-Life Source, this mod is about improving and thats exactly what they did. Everything is perfect, I like the green flash better and the camo is great how it is.

I think the real question is why are they wearing winter camo instead of desert camo

Indeed. You could even say that this thread is about… breeches of camo canon.

[color=black]oh come on this thread sucked anyway

You can always reskin the models later on.
