HDR for skyboxes

Is it really necessary to make a pfm file with HDR Shop for being able to get a HDR skybox? Doesn’t vtex support any other formats or couldn’t I just compile directly a set of images (with different exposures) into a vtf file?

It’s necessary to use HDR shop or a similar tool, you cannot directly compile the set of images into a .vtf.

Humph, HDR Shop v1 seems to be the only freeware tool, that can process this and export to pfm. That’s a little bit shitty to my mind…especially, if you wanna work more platform independent.

Source? Platform independent? Hah!

Seriously, you have to compile on a Windows box anyway, what’s the big deal? HDR shop is tiny and you only need it for one step of the skybox creation process anyway.

MacOS?

Yeah, OK. But anyway it’s crap, that there are no alternatives for converting a bunch of images into the pfm format.

It does the job. End of story.

The game runs on Mac, that doesn’t mean the dev tools do or ever will. Development kits that run on multiple platforms are few and far between.
