Hazard Course

Thanks for the comments guys, I added a ramp up to the container just like the AM ones.
Catz, for an open project of this nature discussion is essential and important. Everything has to be planned before any serious mapping can happen, and we all have to agree on one thing which can be difficult sometimes. At this stage it would be very rough rapid prototyping, it’s still early days. We have to work out what we’re going to change/modify/keep and even for a small level like the HC that’s a pretty big task. You should know this anyway, since you’re a dev and all! :stuck_out_tongue:

Totally understand, it’s a lot of pages to read through, but you should probably read through them all…

There’s a post on our developer forums (for the sake of keeping things somewhat organised) that outlines the design philosophy…

Can somebody update the main post with a link to those forums?

Also, I think CatzEyes has already agreed to do / has done the voice, which I believe is Gina Cross, the post is somewhere in those you skipped I think… Maybe around 5-7?

Edit: Err, replying to that guy from the last post of the last page… pretty sure this page wasn’t here when I posted o.O

I figured this post was directed at me. Thanks for clearing that up.

No no… I was saying that the HC should be almost finished before doing the voice stuff.

Yep, I know all that. I made a poor attempt of hinting about development comparisons. I need more coffee before I try this again. :3

I will try to comment on this a different way so that you guys are not misled. If it happens that Black Mesa is released and Hazard Course is NOT included (like we suspect at this stage), it is possible the work already completed for the HC would be offered to the fanbase.

Awesome.

so in other words, there are more important things to think on and worry bout than the voice files.

ima just sayin.

I don’t think everyone know the PS2 version of HC is made by gearbox.

So? They didn’t really change anything major, it’s not like they added Race X to the HC or anything.

To me, i would choose VALVE version of HC.

And add BrokenFridgeHinge’s idea.

Actually there was discussion as to whether the PS2 HC was Valve’s own vision. If it isn’t, the point becomes mainly null and void. Hence he’s actually contributing something useful to the thread!

Edit: Ninja’d :fffuuu:

I don’t feel like going through 15 pages of text, is this project still running? Who’s in charge? What needs to be done? I’m always willing to help with some modelling / texturing.

Orly Fong.

So is there any chance of seeing any existing work for the HC now? Do you know how far they got with it before abandoning it?

If it’s not going to be in the mod, it would make sense for us to see it. Judging from the quality of the recent screenshots, I would feel more secure in seeing BM’s interpretation.

Sorry. It’s not gonna happen. All work done on the Black Mesa Hazard Course belongs to the Black Mesa dev team.

Good lord, man. This project just started. Don’t expect to see progress anytime in the near future. We’re only in the discussion and conception stage right now. If you would like to help, send a PM to Chrisp (project lead) and show him your skills!

Lookin’ good :stuck_out_tongue:

I agree with some of the other comments thrown about in this thread, I’ll recap them and throw some of my ideas in for good measure:

  • it needs to be more logical, instead of a floating HEV suit put it in a container, and instead of weapons lying on tables put them in a weapons locker or something.
  • make it more immersive, instead of “press C to order security guard around” use something like “order security guard to follow you” and a little tooltip appears saying which key to press.
  • put some more observation windows in like in Portal

Also, I agree that you can certainly start orange mapping this thing before BMS is released. It’ll help you polish the overal layout and when the mod gets released you’ll have a head start.

Maybe if you’re real lucky and work hard on this thing, the devs will offer you the necessary assets to finish this and include it with the mod?

Unlikely, but we can hope. But it is a reason to work to the best of our abilities…

Can i join ?

Note: He’s a little busy at the moment so it may take him a while to reply.

Of course, you can always help by heading to the Hazard Course Forum and give us your thoughts and ideas!

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
