Hazard Course Remake

I can do Steam or Skype, but I’m mic-less. Crypt_Bryant should be my Skype name, Steam ID is Crypt19. I’ll stick around for about 5 minutes to see if anyone’s gonna add, then I’m gonna crash, been up a good 20 hours, now.

I would be glad to help but unfortunately I don’t have any skills in mapping or modeling. I am in the french translation team and, as Jokerine, I could help with captions.
I could also try to do some concept art : I have some ideas but I first need to draw them.

In any case, feel free to send the (almost) finished captions to Jokerine so we can translate them in different languages.

Yeah. Maybe that’s what’s been plaguing the BM movement.

Where’s the Steam chat?

You’d have to have a group on Steam, then you’d join it and enter the chat, I think.

If one of the ‘devs’ of this lil mod makes a group, then people could join. It’s a nice way to post announcements and such too.

https://steamcommunity.com/groups/hazardcoursedevelopers
If you are a developer, please put H.C in your name.

I don’t use online mode much due to my connection, so I’m afraid I can’t really do a steam chat. I might be able to, we’ll see.

Heh, yeah sorry about that. Here in Canada we get an earlier thanksgiving weekend than the US (Or, as people outside of North America refer to it, “an ordinary weekend”) So I’ve spent the last couple of days mostly visiting with relatives and friends I haven’t seen in a while. Seeing this project picking up steam and people actually waiting for me to do something is a good motivator to dive into Hammer now that my brother’s left, though.

Thanks. I don’t get that a lot.

Do you think you can post some of your previous work?

Sure. There’s not much in the way of Source maps, but here’s basically every map I’ve ever released. The Competition entries are probably the best things in there.

One thing I just thought of, perhaps we should replace the crowbar section with a physics puzzle of some sort. I always thought it was just a bit too convenient that they taught you to use a crowbar in the Hazard Course.

Looks pretty damn good.
I agree with your idea that it could be a physics puzzle.

Turn it into a “sometimes you must use your environment to get through tight situations” or something like that.

Heh, I’ve gotten started on the final area just before the tram, with the Security Guard. I have some fun ideas for that part.

yeah the crowbar section being changed into a physics puzzle is a great idea.
Then maybe at the end you could have Gina say something like
“In rare cases you may not be able to move your surroundings, in these cases a blunt object such as a pipe or crowbar can be used to demolish obstacles”

You guys DO realize that there are about 50 other things you need to be taking care of before you start writing lines. Right?

Concepts, concepts.

first need a standard lay out for it. concepts are good but they can only be parts not full. need a standard lay out. sense the hl1 lay out was ok start with that and modify based on what you want the rooms to look like.

Wait, mapping it, or doing concept art?
I had been working on that, but if you’re doing that half of the map I can put what I have on the dropbox, maybe save you a small amount of time.

EDIT: Alright, here are some screenshots from a few hours ago (they are already outdated)

I’ve also uploaded the most recent copy of my version to my dropbox section. It’s under mapsrc. tky, if you’re doing mapping, feel free to take whatever you want from it, just let me know so I’ll stop working on it and get on to the train room.

Also, I just realized I didn’t upload the vcd I made for the guard opening the door. I can’t get to it right now, but it’s basically a cut down version of the first guard from c1a0a, he just walks up to the keypad and presses buttons. For some reason he also won’t follow the player until after the script is run. (I am not experienced in Faceposer by any stretch of the imagination, so I haven’t got a clue how to fix this)
Everything else currently in there should work perfectly.

I don’t do concept art. Only mapping.

Take a look at my dropbox folder. Perhaps we can merge ideas.

I definitely will be shrinking my map geometry though. So keep that in mind. I also suck at lighting, so keep that in mind as well.

Alright. Well, take anything you want, the soda machines are fully functional, lights on the security doors change when unlocked, etc.
I’ll start working on the train room tomorrow night after school.

Will do, thanks.

Maybe you can play with my map a little, see what you think. I’m open to suggestions other than “map is too huge!” because I’m aware of that one already.

It’s likely we’ll be getting a mapping sub forum in sector C pretty soon, but for now this thread will stay in the Cafeteria.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
