Hazard Course Remake

Gooooood point. But it seems like a waste to show everything while it’s being developed.

“Secret” info Steam chats, of course, but me and Dky are the only ones ever in it.

I love this. The lighting is fantastic, even if the rest of the room is a bit empty for now.

And I suck at lighting so I appreciate it even more! :3

Yeah we need more Steam chat participation… most of the time it’s empty with nobody but me in it… like right now. :frowning:

I could be more in it, its just that I got exams and Steam distract me alot due the games I got :’(

So, what do we need some concept art for? Let me know and I’ll get to work on it. Here’s some of the old stuff I have:

There’s another concept I have somewhere for letting the hologram move through the level using a hologram emitter that runs on a rail, but it’s on another computer.

There should also be a volumetric emitter I think… one that can project around the entire room. It would be useful for when Gina goes and demonstrates actions to Gordon, like the crouch-jump, and the surfacing for air part.

Like for example there are some parts where Gina goes and demonstrates movements. You’d need some kind of emitter that can emit the image all over the room.

Could be. Or even something ceiling or wall-mounted that is less in-the-way.

Makes me think of the identity scanner (?) or whatever it was in Decay. The small orange box with the scanner thingy. It’d be awkward, but something like that might work.

Anyway, this made me think: you and Jeff are gonna outshine me and Box by a longshot. I think I’ll take a nap, then work like hell to see if I can get my work on par.

Everything’s still pretty-damn early, glowing with placeholder lighting (a couple maps are even fullbright :o), so the more I bash on it the more I feel motivated to improve on it :slight_smile:

Awesome. As Dky said, we do need the moving hologram emitter, Box has been wanting ideas for the tram station (PS2-based intro) and the long-jump room has been questioned a few times. That’s all I got off the top of my head.

it’s not a necessary addition, but the hazard course was an extremely enjoyable sequence in the game.

one of the first times I ever saw half life, a friend played the hazard course (which was an unbelievable experience in gaming at the time), got to the end, beat the security guard to death with the crowbar and then got mowed down by security turrets that popped out of the ceiling. we laughed all day at that. yea, standards were lower for games back then, that is how paradigm changing half life was for us old timers back in 1998. still, an updated version of the hazard course would look beautiful, as the rest of BMS does.

If we figure out what isn’t actually being worked on, then sure.

Speaking of which, we need an actual roster of who’s doing what.

DKY - Guard Room, Shooting Range
Crypt - ??? A bunch of stuff
BoxNoob - Intro, A bunch of stuff
JeffMOD - Tram, probably other stuff too

I really think there should be a HEV suit return before the tram. The reason for this is because the course is mostly automated there for there should be a return area to lower reset time.

Hey guys, I got in contact with Catalyst about doing some mapping for the HC, but he’s actually a mapper on the OBM and GD teams, who are doing their own version of the Course.

If there’s a way to do it convincingly then maybe.
