If it was my work I’d probably just set up some door or rotating door entities to allow them to move and parent a trigger to that for functionality (dings, light going off, etc.), but that’s just me, and there’s probably a more efficient way of doing it.
I figured out a cool way to do it. Actually, I figured out multiple ways to do it. One is cooler than the other, but the other is more fitting in certain situations.
My current version only uses one of those methods… for now. It’s completely WIP which means it’s very much unfinished as of right now. So no mediaz unless you’re a dev, in which case I’ll have it dropbox’d in a few minutes.
EDIT: It’s dropbox’d. Tell me what you think. If you have any severe framerate drops or engine crashes, please let me know! I spent an hour or so optimizing the [[REALLY_COOL_FEATURE]] so that it wouldn’t crash the game with a vertex overflow!
I’ll check out the [[REALLY_COOL_FEATURE]] as soon as I get back on my good PC. Was it really that resource intensive? I never noticed anything unusual.
Sounds good, I’ll try to download it today and check it out tonight.
One question; Are you still using the Mp5 like in the original, or has it been replaced with a more suitable weapon for training/the BMRF?
I split the thing into two parts since it made more sense to start with something smaller, rather than literally jump to the big guns.
And yeah it crashed the game once before I started getting clever with hint brushes, occluders, and areaportals.
I didn’t have any crashes or framerate drops, so whatever you did, it worked. Looks really nice. I have a few concerns myself (too many guns, for instance,) but otherwise, very nice work.
Following this with great interest guys.
Wish I could help actually but about all I’d be good for is writing…until I get a much better microphone.
Good. So it worked.
It’s easy to tweak the number. That’s the beauty of the system.
Anyway, the way the course is presented, it seems as if it would be heavily automated so as to reduce the effort needed to reset the course for the next trainee. That would also reasonably mean a good number of guns, in order to reduce how often they would need to restock the system.
It also provides a nice excuse to give the player infinite ammo, since one major glaring flaw of the original was that you could get stuck and be forced to manually re-load the game if you fired off all available ammunition without hitting any targets.
Very good work Dky.Though the system is getting stuck sometimes and the physics get very high which is lowering the framerate.
~Does anyone know why we can’t see Michael Tannock his post on page 6?
He posted on page 6? He posted at all?
Ah, good thinkin’. I still think the amount given is at least a little much (I almost crapped myself when I saw them) but everything else is pretty spot on.
Does the physics get high when shooting? Or when the delivery system is running?
I don’t have many physics objects in that sequence, and the ones that are in there are all as passive as possible. I can’t think of any feasible reason why physics would eat your framerate.
I could always reduce the number. The way I have it all set up makes it pretty easy to tweak.
Should I reduce the number of [[SENTENCE REDACTED (since Crypt already read this… wow this should really be taken to the Steam Chat or PMs. xD)]]
Or maybe even BOTH! Look at me, thinkin’ outside the box ‘n’ stuff.
Uh, whichever, really. If [REDACTED] you could add a nice layout if you keep the [REDACTED] shrink them. I guess it’s more personal preference, here.
Well in Source games I find that usually bigger tends to be better when it comes to relatively small details like that… And I designed the [[REDACTED]] with [[REDACTED]] in mind.
EDIT: Now that I’ve made my point and Crypt read it, I’ll shut up to keep from spoiling.
Anyone who didn’t [rI]redacted[/I]] now has a pretty damn good reference point.
Posts edited to remove spoilers.
I took both of your reduction suggestions, by the way. I’ll re-upload immediately.
I [[REDACTED]] you!
Alright, I took a look at it earlier. I really like the [redacted]! That’s a very good way to [censored], both visually and [classified].
Gonna make a start with the intro today.Does anyone heard something from catalyst already though?
@all deva - shouldnt we use stean chat or pms to give secret info?
Why all the secrecy? I like watching the planning and progress, something we never got to see for Black Mesa
