Hazard Course Remake (AVAILABLE NOW!)

lol think it would be funny to have the scientist observing the movment part say something if the player drops into the water bellow… something like

scientst: hey, uh freeman, I would return the the catwalk, that water isn’t exactly safe

or

scientist : Ok the guard rails are there for a reason, I don’t know who keeps telling you guys the path way is optional but you are not suppose to jump down there.

I appreciated it.
I thought it was a nice touch.

That was me. I didn’t know that it was intentional at the time.

Speakin’ of you, PCG has taken a screenie for you guys. I don’t think I need to remind you guys that it’s an Alpha WiP, but, yeah.

So uh, how do they get those huge containers out? I don’t see a crane, or a door large enough, I won’t even go into the sideways container- :fffuuu:

We knew we were forgetting something*…
Community saves the day once again.

*Disclaimer: We actually didn’t know, because then we wouldn’t have forgotten about it. Thanks for reminding us.

You know, we’ve had crane models made for that room for months, and even a demonstration VMF.

guessing the targets will have there own model eventually?

Not sure. Brushes have seemed to do fine so far.

Ehhh. The course is supposedly makeshift, so I think brushes will do fine.

yeah but keep in mind black mesa does have firing ranges, we see them in blue shift even, I would not doubt that the workers making the hazard course would requisition a few of there targets for use IT would be a bit more professional then to take a concrete block and stick it on a stick.

That’s… actually an excellent point.

Hm… Just a thought, but I wonder if Skyms has got anything cookied up for the targets for his Blue Shift expansion.

The pistol range has actual targets. You see them in the taco video. The MP5 range isn’t quite the same type of range, though. It’s a sort of simulated shootout scenario that uses target silhouettes in the form of metal cutouts, sort of like the ones in the Opposing Force boot camp. Both are valid types of shooting range targets, for different type of shooting ranges.

I prefer the silhouette thing for the MP5 range. Perhaps if I can get a better texture for it, I can create a better silhouette shape. I might also be able to experiment with a prop, but no guarantees about that, unfortunately.

I was talking about actual silhouette targets, as I said you see them in blue shift. I saw taht the pistol range had accuracy targets but, that wouldn’t make sense on the range.

also I don’t think it would be that hard to make a model that looks like a silhouette target come one you can make one of them with ply board and some black and white paint don’t think making a model of one is that hard.

even realistically speaking the ply board and paint option would be more feazible then concrete slabs for 2 reasons. 1. concrete has a higher weight then wood and would cause considerable ware on the machinery it’s connected to, 2. concrete costs more then wood ply board and is more time consuming to set up.

EDIT: bye bye ghost page.

Just as a clarification: You keep saying concrete - it’s hard to tell from the media we’ve released, but the current targets are metal.

Right, so I’m using silhouette metal cutouts. The Blue Shift targets are accuracy targets with a silhouette, in a linear firing range that’s obviously meant to train for accuracy rather than target acquisition. It’s a different type of firing range that uses a different type of target.

First, the targets are metal, not concrete. Metal is fairly cheap and easy to get and cut to shape. Second, I was speaking from a technical perspective, in that I don’t know if a model can be set up to detect bullets in the same way as a brush, mostly because I haven’t attempted it yet. It’s very likely that it’s possible though.

If anything, we could always parent an invisible brush to the model.

^
It wouldn’t be hard at all.

Then you’d lose bullet impact decals, which is unacceptable in a firing range. Did you really think I didn’t already consider that? :stuck_out_tongue:

One solution would be to create a new metal material with a fully transparent texture, but that’s a case of solving a problem that doesn’t yet exist, so let’s not go there just yet until we have to.

hmm, in the image here, it looks like they are concrete and metal not just metal… though that may just be because the only one I can see clearly is behind the unbreakable glass.

now that I look closer at it I can see what you are going for though it does look like 2 different peases of metal maybe you should make it a single peace like https://www.letargets.com/images/bobber-chip-gr.jpg It would make more sense… though I think a ply board one would be better for the fun of it as you can make the target gib if hit enough.
