But I love tacos :’( [COLOR=‘Black’]lol
Cool, look forward to playing it
… what is that taco made of… it survived a fall, being torched, irradiated and frozen… wait the taco survived the harzard course which shows of the HEV suit. THE HEV SUIT IS MADE OF TACOS.
As they say: “If you eat it and like it, than don’t ask what is it made of”
On personal note, the station at the start looks a bit boring, no npc but a big empty floor. Ok I shut it, … Hail for The One Free Taco!
No, no, don’t shut it, keep going.
That area’s a fairly recent addition, it’s hasn’t been detailed yet, but it’s still nice to get opinions and thoughts.
based on the video, think the station at the start should have some more things, like a tram schedule, some more seats , a ceiling turret(decorative), and some scientists and security personnel.
idea: have there be signup station maned by a guard, the player will have to “talk to” him to inter the course. (this basicly means swap the side of the air lock guards station, and put another window on it.
Also dialog idea (if possible)
trigger, starts when the player gets there
scientist: What do you mean, my training was bumped to next weak, I missed a very important meeting cause of this.
guard: Sorry sir, but they wanted to get this freeman guy trained today, something about it being more important.
scientist: But, I need this done today, or I will lose my job, And I will see to it that I am not the only one.
guard: Yeah, Yeah, just go take a seat. I will see what I can do.
scientist goes and sits on a bench
scientist: mumbles something about wanting to punch out who ever is in charge of sector C (aka can’t think of good dialog)
guard sees the player
Guard: ah freeman, sorry about that opens the door well go a head, they are waiting for you.
At about 18 seconds into the video he looks directly at one of those.
the green board? if so, was thinking more a a manned sign up thing, highly doubt they would leave something as “important” as HEV training’s schedule up to a board.
EDIT: just realized that’s a map… sorry.
Okay, maybe not directly at it.

It seems sort of hidden, but it exists.
yeah saw it better when he looks right at it 30 seconds in… still think it would be more well visible from the station, you don’t really want to hid the signup area in an air lock.
just wondering could you swap its side and put a window where the map is (placing the map to the right of it and angled.) that way it makes a bit more sense.
Edit: never mind, I’ll pool my thoughts together later
amusing video, I was thinking on the way home from work today, actually thinking before I saw your video about what people was actually talking about.
Anyway I had these thoughts on the way home from work.
Advert billboards of private Brand suppliers to Black Mesa
(example)
Tau Electronics
Gauss Precision Lasers
Gluon Particale accelerator
Often big buildings or facilities have a sculpture or something very eye catching on there drive courts. Black Mesa is a secret facility but perhaps it would not stop them puuting something once you go underground to “impress”
Good work and looks good
I’m not sure if anything like that is either something Black Mesa would do, or worth our time and effort to come up with and implement. Advertisements aren’t exactly “impressive.”
Well, if they advertise themselves?
I mean, they put those damn ads in the WORKPLACE (aka the way to the “Shit goes FUBAR” chamber, aka Anti-Mass Spectrometer Chamber)
They’re already government funded, they don’t really need to advertise.
If they’re going to be showing off, it’s likely stuff like in the flipsigns that they can boast about. Which we don’t plan on creating new ones of.
Oh. That’s what I meant. The whole “HURDUR WE BE TEAM” thing you see right before you get on the first elevator down.
Just from what I can tell, from the ascetics of the AM and QE labs, Black Mesa has areas where visitors (i.e. Investors, government officials, etc.) can see the facility. It’s all for show. So the billboards aren’t a surprise.
Black Mesa is not a secret facility, but they sure have the right to remain secret on their projects, most of all if they’re in contract with the US Department of Defense. Also yes, a statue would look fine but only in the administrative buildings I guess, or any nice topside office (not the ugly military buildings we see in Opposing Force :meh
like what was done for that Half-Life mod, The Core. But then we don’t see much of those apart from the old-looking Sector D.
I agree with you, and I wouldn’t be surprised to see the entrance to Sector A housing some kind of of visitor area to show them how staff are trained for their various tasks. I’m pretty sure the tram system could also be used for tours around low-security areas, or else it wouldn’t have any window at all.
Nice touch with the “Black Mesa Training Facility” decal over the “Sector A Water Station”. Black Mesa has no shame showing off they reuse derelict part of the original base.
I like how renovated the first halls seem, it sure shows off a better image of the company than the waste-filled tunnels below.
Speaking of which, you had an excellent idea to extend the course to all types of hazards which can be encountered in the game. Still I was wondering, it would be neat to ahve some messages displayed by the scientists in case the player/Gordon takes too much damage, like “Get some help, quick!” or “Bring the medical unit!”. But then I understand you don’t have BM’s voice actor for the scientists voices to help you with that.
Woops, weird double-post bug on my browser.
If you wanna take the whole “Not a secret” thing further, the flipsign detailing the hydroelectric facility claims that the dam was named a national landmark.
I’m glad somebody appreciated this. Not only was I worried it was too obvious of a “detail” to put, but a certain tester thought it was a mistake and asked for it to be fixed.
I emailed that actor way back and he agreed. I’m not sure if he’s still on board, but if not I’m sure we wouldn’t have any trouble finding a replacement.
I like that idea, by the way. Maybe if the player’s health drops below a certain point we could have some scientists ask if he’s alright, or death have them play it off like he’s passing out, too much time in the rad tunnel make some crack about rad poisoning. Who knows. Definitely inspires some neat thoughts.
