I think I fixed it. Problem seems to have been a commentary text on an info node. Removed the line and got it up and running in Hammer .
I’ll upload it to dropbox as hc_lobby01a_jeffmodedits_130208.vmf.
Hope it works for you too.
What scheme does your numbering follow, by the way?
My numbering? It’s just the date when I download a file (yymmdd)
Oh. I really should’ve been able to figure that out on my own. :retard:
Oh wow. I don’t know what’s worse, that the built-in comment system can basically corrupt a map if used on the wrong entity, or that I broke the map doing something so useless.
I’m an idiot. :retard:
Thanks for fixing it.
EDIT: Oh, and we’re snowed in today, so I can hopefully get more done.
EDIT2: I’ve finally finished downloading all the models, so I’ve gotten started on the tram station. I’m thinking it’s too AM-ish, and a bit of a walk to the security booth, so I’ll probably be overhauling it a bit.
I think overall it could look like AM, but if it does look like AM, it should be dirtier. Not like ludicrously piled with dirt, but just less used.
Of course, if you have better ideas, you can use yours.
Maybe you could change the first sliding door (like AMs) with different color like yellow or something
Before you get too far, I’ve been fiddling with the tram station, minor brush corrections and - dare I say it - a few more models (hc_t0a0/gate…) with texture sheet (t0a0/gate…) all included in a map (hc_t0a0_130205).
Perhaps you could overhaul the design to be more like the station at the very beginning of the game instead, as I had suggested somewhere a few pages back, but I think ppl missed it. (apologies if I just repeating myself needlessly)
Since the hazard course is a lower security zone, it differs from the restraints imposed by sector C layout. It would give a very different first impression the area rather than just looking like a modified duplicate of AM.
Just a suggestion
Well I didnt know how other stations of other sectors would look like, so I took AM’s style.
Just pointing that out…
I think AM is probably pretty average, aside from the entrance. Most of AM’s security seems to be actually getting to AM in the first place, heavy blast doors and security checkpoints along the train route into AM.
Exactly how I see it. They put some effort into making sure nobody is somewhere they shouldn’t be.
Try looking somewhere in Inbound chapter. Maybe you’ll get an idea.
I think an entrance with just automated double doors (not large blast doors with complex locking mechanisms) would help suit the ‘low security’ feel. Inside you have the security office where the guards keep track of who goes in themselves.
You mean like the start of Blue Shift?
There must be like a camera outside and a security officer through a glass window inside.
A bit like the shooting range in the game Bladerunner
Actually I was just thinking you just walk right in through the doors and the security officer at the desk greets you. Like, pretty low security, there isn’t much in the area that needs to be defended really, and the Hazard Course itself is sealed with a fairly decent sized door anyway (controlled by the guard).
I know, and you did a good job with it, especially the additions you made, I just think that the big undetailed cavern in AM is a bit too…bland. It’d also be more noticeable if you see it multiple places. I’m thinking of going with a more narrow tunnel-style area and a slightly more “above-ground” feel than AM, with some windows near the ceiling.
Alright, I’ll get those merged up as well as I can.
As for the entrance itself, I think we’ll be staying with the ‘airlock’, but making it a bit more open aside from that. As I mentioned before, the entrance booth and the airlock booth are now the same room, something that was present in tram stations within the decay maps, such as gearbox’s rendition of the Level 3 Dorms. (I don’t think there was an airlock, but just having the one blast door simply won’t do)
It works as a backstory element too; Obviously Sector A is Personnel Training and Human Resources now, but the Hazard Course is built into some silos and stuff, so who knows what the area used to be in the facility’s time as a military base?
Alright.Looking forward what you’ll make of it .
I honestly think Sector A was used as a storage for ammunition, missiles, and used as a sewer judging by the transition rooms, and the HEV room & the shooting range in the original.
@ysreal I assume you mean this. Its from Decay as far as I remember.

The security booth is too far.
