Hard war

I am slowly saving up to buy a new rig, one piece at a time, in order to get rid of horrible Dell-nes. I was planning on buying a mobo first, then a CPU, and power supply, and re-using my video card and hardrive and maybe ram.
Current specs are:
Basically a standard Dimension 9150, with an 9800gt and some extra ram.
CPU: Intel Pentium D 915
Mobo model: 0fj030
mobo chipset:i945P
Video card: 9800gt
Ram: 2.5gb

That’s pretty much all I know. I wasn’t sure if the mobo info was relevant, but that’s all cpu-z told me that seemed useful. If you’re going to post a link to an online shop, make sure they deliver to Ireland (Newegg do not). Also, current savings is at 125 euro, so plox try to keep it under that.

You really should wait untill you’ve got a big enough budget to buy everything at once. Otherwise you run the risk of either having an outdated (possibly incompatible) component, or you can get that component cheaper a few months later.

I suggest around 750 EURO should be enough to buy a decent game rig.

EDIT: You don’t have to buy a MOBO chipset, it’s part of the MOBO :stuck_out_tongue:

^I agree.

^I concur

If possible, I’d suggest going for a better processor - at least a Core 2 Duo. It’d be a shame to choke your rig with a low FSB.

I know. Also, I cannot save 750 euro. I just can’t.
Besides, if I buy them one at a time, I can just attach my old parts to the new ones.

I’d suggest doing a lot more research before starting to build your own computer, especially after seeing your last statement.

I know that they may well not all be compatible ok?
I’m not a fucking retard.

You COULD just buy a new graphics card, that Radeon 9800 is very old. Provided your MOBO supports PCI-X you could probably find a decent Radeon HD3000 for around 100-120 EURO.

Also make sure your PSU has got enough juice to feed a new card, though the new cards are probably a lot more power-friendly to make do with your current PSU.

2.5GB of RAM is still decent enough, so just a new graphics card should provide a noticeable boon to your gaming experience :stuck_out_tongue:

9800 GT is not ATI. That’s an Nvidia card.

^This, and I don’t plan on changing that.

Ah, I was wondering why I never heard of this GT suffix :expressionless:
