Hammer: Sound Plays Everywhere

Hey all,

I’m making a roleplay map for Garry’s Mod, and in one section of the map, i have made a rotor that churns water, out of a func_rotating. I set the rotating sound to something, i click run map, but when i am in the game, i can hear the sound from the rotor everywhere in the map, i have tried changing the range and such, but it just means i hear it loud inside the range, and quieter everywhere else…

I’m using the Episode 2 SDK, and i have double checked (by eye and pointfile) for leaks, and i have found none, im ready to pull my hair out over this, anyone know how to solve it?

Cheers,

Are you using an ambient_generic or just telling the func_rotating to make a sound? If you’re doing the latter, try using a looped ambient_generic to play your sound, as you have more control over the sound radius. If you’re using an ambient generic make sure not to set a SourceEntityName as that tends to cause problems with sounds playing everywhere (also make sure the ‘play everywhere’ flag isnt ticked)

Im glad im not building Black Mesa because I have no idea what you two just said.

Hahaha.

Also it’s some coincidence the map is actually Black Mesa.

Im testing out an ambient_generic now Rabid, cheers.

(EDIT) Tried an ambient_generic, no source entity name, no play everywhere flag ticked, but it still plays everywhere

if it helps the sound is Airboat_water_fast.

Well its a gift, sometimes a curse

Just tried that, to no avail…

How about making it silent? Who cares about map sounds anyway.

I do when rotors, trains and elevators make no noise at all.

In multiplayer I mean…

If anyone plays that map they are just gonna be spamming the mic anyway.

Helpful.

If you can’t fix it, just reduce the overall volume as well to give it that background feel.
