Hammer compile

What’s this mean?

Compact freed 131072 bytes from virtual heap (up to 256k still committed)
Compact released 458752 bytes to the backing store

I can’t my map right now cause for one reason or another L4D won’t let me play my custom map. :’(

edit: fixed the latter and am ignoring the former.

Do you have a lot of memory-intensive applications running while you’re compiling? Are you running compiles on a low-end PC? It sounds like it’s just freeing up memory during the compile process and doesn’t seem like an error of any sort.

If you have a crappy PC I would suggest using batch files to run the compile tools so you can free up memory that is being used by Hammer.

same thought too. What OS are you running and how much ram you have? Also what programs are running in the background?

I have a high-end pc, though it only has 4 gigs RAM and xp. When compiling I usually only have Zune and maybe chrome or something else running.

Under control panel system it says I have 2.75 gigs of ram.

XP only supports a maximum of 3GB ram I believe.

Yes, including video RAM and any other kind of RAM.

I thought it was 4, guess I’m wrong. But physically I do have 4 gigs. Any suggestions on how to get rid of this? Also, idk if this is related, but at the end of my compile it doesn’t show me the percentage of maximum faces etc. I’ve used.

32bit XP (or any other 32bit O.S.) supports a max of 4Gb, but XP has to slice some off for video memory and other system stuff. There is an option to tell it to slice off half as much, but this causes it’s own issues…
The 64bit limit is not within practical reach for a good while yet.

I got problemas with a configuration like this. I got a high end computer (2xQuad Core Xeon 3 GHz, 4 GB RAM ECC, Quadro FX 4500) and Hammer is slow. I’m going to change to Vista 64 bit to get available the rest of the power but until a new Source engine version, no more can be done.

I’ve tried UDK and in my computer it flies (the Swarn distributed computing system is awesome!)…

why not 7 64?

the physical limit is 16.8 million terabytes (big increase from 4 gigs :fffuuu: ), but most put an artificial limit on it - such as 4 petabytes for physical memory and 256 terabytes of actual addressable space.

Anybody know how to fix my problem? most importantly I want to see the usual percents at the end of the compile.

it’s support 3,8 gb ram on windows xp sp3 .
max i have seen back about year it was 3,5 gb ram in task manager .

also could try Batch Compiler
