Hammer Black viewports /My first map

Hey, seeing thisthread got me inspired to start a map myself, but after downloading source sdk and opening hammer, every viewport is black!

I’ve tried reinstalling the SDK to no avail, and after a google search, the only fix I found (posted by Cameron  on this same forum, that was replacing the binaries) didn’t work.

BTW, this is what I’m getting:

Source Engine 2006 HL2: Ep1

Source Engine 2007 HL2: Ep2

What engine version are you using?

Ya I had the same problem. What you need to do is use the 2009 source version. You need to make a custom configure for it to work, but it worked wonders for me.

[EDIT] Actually some guy just posted this fix. Hell of a lot easier than mine, but I cant confirm that it works. Its worth a shot.

Source Engine 2006 HL2: Ep1

Source Engine 2007 HL2: Ep2

I’ll try this. Seems promising.

EDIT: After reseting game configurations, Ep2 finally appeared on the 2009 SDK dropdown list. Thanks!

Yep, use either 07 or 09

no 07 is broke as well. 09 is the only working one.

I’ve tried using the 09’ version, says it’s not yet functional on Source SDK. Every other version is all black in the Hammer Editor, AND I HATE BLACKS.

Never had this problem before.

Use 2007 for custom mods (Note you have to set the appID of this mod to 218), use 2009 for Episode 2, Team Fortress 2 and Portal.

ahh, fiddlesticks!

yesterday I had to reinstall steam. now when I open the SDK, Ep2 doesnt appear on the 2009 engine drop down list. I added it manually like what was posted on that link up there, but that didnt work.

Any ideas?

Reset game configs?

already done that…

Same problem here, and it appears we’re fucked.

So you reinstalled steam, Half Life 2: Episode 2, and Source SDK? And what you did earlier doesn’t work now?

I copied the steamapps folder to another location (backup), uninstalled steam and reinstalled, copied the folder back to where it belongs.

That’s definitely not the problem because steam recognizes every game, tool and mod. the only problem I have is the SDK not letting me choose Engine 2009 for Ep2.

Try running ep2 because I got some error that the game config was not there or something. I ran ep2 then after that did the edit game config, exited sdk then opened it up again and it worked.

nope, ep2 runs perfectly.

I don’t know about sdk right at the moment. Its been acting up for me too. 2 days ago it would only compile with the 07 bsp and then today it would only work with the orange box version. And there wasn’t an update

Valve needs to fix sdk so we are all on the same page.

I don’t want to start a thread for this, so I think this is the most appropriate place for it. I started working on a map and tested it a quarter of the way to completion. Now, I made enough progress that I want to test it again, and yet for the past quadrillion hours, (I’m not exaggerating, you want to fight about it?) I’ve been trying to get it to work but for some strange reason it always reverts to the old test that had taken place several billion hours ago. Nothing seems to be working, and now I’m at the point where I am excessively cutting myself and/or throwing my computer through the window. Basically, to sum this up in one word,
HALP!

Ditto, the new updates rendered my sdk completly useless as of the moment. I have yet to find a fix for my problem.
