Half-Life Source Ultimate Definition textures mod

Came across this mod that some of you might be interested in. If you expand the “Show more” tab, you’ll find working download links to the mod, a patch, SD headcrab model (if needed) and English subtitles. Spoken language in the video is German, but I expect English is available as well.

The description compares this mod to Black Mesa… really?

This may tie some of you over until BM sees the light of day, “soon-ish”.

Enjoy… or not.

Already seen this, already played it, already uninstalled it.

Really detailed high-resolution textures always look jarringly out of place when applied to old games’ basic map geometry and lighting. It just exacerbates the low-poly nature of it all.

Also, those ambient occlusion effects are just terrible.

Half-Life: Source
HD Pack

This is pretty much everything that CAN be wrong.
I also agree with Maxey.

Indeed. Unless a game is more than 90% textures, I.E a 2D game or like a Generation 1 FPS, I don’t really care much about textures but rather low amounts of polygons as the main offender in the graphics department. Sure sharper textures are nice, but it doesn’t really do much on its own.

Kinda like putting 256x256 textures on minecraft, fucking horrible

I like 256x256 textures in minecraft. :frowning:

It really depends on the style of texture pack.

Realistic texture packs look terrible in Minecraft but cartoony or 16-bit style looks really good with the added resolution detail.

Problem is the high res 16-bit style textures don’t feel 16-bit-ish
I’d limit myself to 32x32 textures it still looks natural on the blocky environment

Seriously what is it with minecraft? I swear it is infecting the internet, what a load of crap it is.

Have you actually played it?

Mabilis, you sound like one of my friends. Everytime Minecraft is mentioned he starts talking about how the game suck, look like shit and asks how it can be fun to run around smashing boxes.

It shall be noted that he have never, ever even played the game.

Just sad Minecraft have got a bit too easy. :frowning:

I actually think it looks nice, especially the Xen ones. It’s pretty good for what it is – most of you people just hate the idea of an HD Half Life update in general, I think.

I also like it for a different reason: It changes so much of the textures and sounds that I feel like I’m playing the game like it’s my first time again. I have played the retail version some much that the textures and sounds have become wallpaper in my mind and the aesthetic thrill is virtually non-existent. So it gets a thumbs up from.

I actually agree with everyone else, good textures does not mix with low poly.

yep, yet another skin pack+texture pack with the ENBseries dll…

I might try it since it now has new textures in all chapters, but I don’t think this will replace Black Mesa or the original for me.

BTW a similar method to ENBseries can be applied to GoldSrc HL to add ambient occlusion, physics/ragdolls, water shaders and normal maps without actually modding your GoldSrc version.

If you read the comments below the video, a few users complain about various graphics issues to which the author suggests removing the ENB series mod.

You know what? I think when BM comes out, it could be interesting to port the assets into HL: source and do up a sort of Halo: Anniversary style upgrade.

Why?

Novelty.

Plus there are enough butthurt fucknuts that are pissy that BM isn’t a 1:1 remake that it would be recieved well by at least a few people.

I know what you’re thinking: “Fuck them, who cares what they think?” and you’d be right. You know what they’re thinking?

“Fuck you, who cares what you think?” and they’re right too.

Such is life.
