HALF-LIFE: RESURRECTION: The Forgotten and Unfinished Expansion Pack

Back in the late 90s and early 2000s, someone was working on his own “expansion pack” for HL1. It was a modification, but it was an ambitious mod which he intended to continue the story of the first game. I think Planet Half-Life used to host the site, but no longer. The plot of the mod assumes that you accepted the G-Man’s offer, and involves Gordon trying to deal with a terrorist organization which is kidnapping Black Mesa scientists and forcing them to open portals to Xen.

The concept was really cool, and there were already screenshots for all the chapters for the mod. The guy behind it was even interviewed about the mod, and I hoped that it would be able to be released around the time of OPPOSING FORCE. It never was released, and I tried searching for any traces of it with little success.

I think that mod was called HALF-LIFE: RESURRECTION, but it could have been another title. As I said before, I searched for it again, and although I found a “Resurrection” site for HL, it was for a whole bunch of unfinished mods unrelated to what I remember. Any HL veterans remember this mod?

Man, things like this make me wish I was 10 years older.
That sounds like an epic mod, and an awesome plot.

Yeah, I’m going to go ahead and completely disagree with you, Dr.Awesomesauce. Mostly based on the fact that what is stated above is literally the worst concept for a game I have ever heard – ever.

I don’t remember it. Oh well.

Don’t be too quick to dismiss the story, OrderofDragon. It’s true that the story based upon my sentence sounds simplistic, but the creator’s explanation of the story is much better than mine. He had a well written introductory story for the mod on his website, which I wish was still available. The modder introduced another G-Man-like character who was personally responsible for the marine clean-up team he sent. In his story, the G-Man is revealed to be a high-ranking government official, higher than the President, but whom no one in the main government knows exists. He also had Gordon talk in the story, but no one wants to hear of Gordon talking.

Besides those small points, the game was to start off in a desert with Gordon armed with a Desert Eagle. The creator had a lot of chapters for the planned game, and his level design looked vast as well. He originally had a concept art piece of Gordon dressed like a grunt with black clothes and sunglasses, but I’m sure that was scrapped.

It’s really odd that no one, not even at PHL, remembers this mod attempt at all. If only there were an archived version of the site available.

i dont know what the question is
if i remember it?
no i dont

Do you mean Half-Life Redemption?

https://half-life.wikia.com/wiki/Absolute_Redemption

looks cool

“The mod was included in the original retail version of Counter-Strike.”

WHAT?!?!?!?!?
I want it! Noaw!

I have that Half-Life Generations box.

Planet Pillip has it…

Me too, but it doesn’t have that in it.

Well, it’s Generation, no s.

On the other hand, what would you say if I told you about a game with this plot: “A bunch of scientists in a secret laboratory screw up an experiment badly, resulting in rampaging aliens teleporting into earth”?

Man, if only something like that existed but with one of the scientists having a crowbar and a super suit!

I don’t know – why don’t you ask Steven fucking King, the guy who wrote that concept.

Ah, right, Stephen King writing the concept suddenly makes it better suitable for a game.
Shit, my bad that I didn’t realize that.

Stephen B-Movie King

i was thinking it was redemption as well. though i remember redemption being allot harder, first patch of enemys where the female assassins and grunts if i recall.

but i do agree the story line sounds a bit cliche and crap.

It’s DEFINITELY NOT Redemption. I tried checking out information on Redemption to see if it is connected to Resurrection, but it isn’t. Resurrection was a totally differently planned mod entirely.

And I do have some proof that it existed. These few pieces of Planet Half-Life news from their old archives.

Sadly, Blacksun Entertainment doesn’t seem to exist anymore. I wish their site was archived.

This is proof that I am talking about Resurrection and not Redemption.

As for you guys who say the story sucks, we don’t know what the full story was, so you shouldn’t jump to conclusions just because my brief sentence descriptions were lacking.

Might be just your imagination, if not then I don’t think you should be bothered about decade old stuff you have no control over.
