Did it teach him how to use RPGs and alien weaponry? I didn’t play through it so I wouldn’t know.
In Episode 3 we learn that the real hero of Half Life was the HEV suit, which was controlling Gordon the whole time, killing aliens and HECU grunts with robotic precision and ease, ever since the Resonance Cascade unlocked its true abilities, while Gordon is forced to go along with it, staring and silently paralyzed while it saves the day…
gordon:zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…hmpf… reso…mumble-mumble…casc…zzzzzzzzzzz
HEV suit:you want a piece of me? you want a piece of me?? take this you lousy freaks! <budda-budda-budda-budda!!!!!!!!!!!>
gordon wakes up: wha…? hey… can you…
HEV suit:
gordon: h…hey…hello…
HEV suit:
gordon: great! my ass is itching and i can’t even scratch myself.
and they were surelly all vey bad at the training, 'cause only gordon and the easter egg scientist without HEV survived on Xen.
If i was to make a reboot, it would involve replacing all the nonsensical locations (such as the box-smashing room) with something that made sense.
such places as that found over hl and hl opforce are easter eggs. the box smashing room in hl, the one seen in Op. Force and metal pieces seen the pit worm nest in Op Force are reffeared as easter eggs of Star Wars IV: A new hope Death Star’s garbage compactor.
Also there’s a star wars reffered quote of the scientist saying: ‘‘have you seen the new IG-88?’’ To a security guard in op force
for those who didn’t know what an IG-88 is: an assassin droid of star wars.
So Valve/gearbox made easter eggs of star wars?
yep
Oh God, it’s the blind leading the even more blind.
If I were to reboot the Half-Life franchise…
I would make it more of a first-person survival horror game. The plot you ask?
The year is 2012, you (the player) are going to work at the Black Mesa Facility. As soon as you walk inside you see a lot of cool stuff, even an arcade! But there is security cameras all over the place, and you don’t notice anything. You go to the Collider. As soon as you get to the collider, the door closes on you. A portal opens to Xen, and aliens from Xen come in. The lights go off, you cannot see a lot. You have a flashlight but it only reveals so much. You have a crowbar. There is limited ammo for your Glock 17, and you do not know what is around the corner…
I know I normally wouldn’t act like this on the event of such a gigantic necropost like this one, specially considering who did said necropost, but god damn, thanks for doing this, because now I know that 2 years ago I posted shit like this:
What the fuck was I thinking and how come I forgot about this shit?
I must’ve been drunk or something, holy shit, ze levels of zilly, zey are too much.
Knowing my own writing patterns, I’d probably set it in alternate-history 1940’s. Military experiments in Germany cause a dimensional rift, and it’s up to Hans von Hozel, aging SS operative, to fight aliens as the player is subjected to accurate and well-researched reflections of the political climate of Nazi Germany, contrasted with the insertion of fantasy elements, the story ultimately leading to the end of days. It would eventually come full circle as a metaphor for nationalism or something…
Maxey have the greatest idea of rebooting.
To start, keep the character of Gordon Freeman completely unchanged, He is perfect in my eyes. The entire intro of half life one would remain unchanged, though certain areas of the tram ride would be changed to elaborate on the competition with Aperture Science (fallout-esque corporate espionage vibes, but not as heavy or too overbearing) Other areas would be de-exaggerated to better represent the seriousness of Black mesa in comparison to Aperture science, including the anti mass spectrometer, which is entirely to large and over done in my opinion.
I think certain real-life events would be referenced in ambient conversation, or player observation to make the player comfortable with their situation, and make the catastrophe more “real”, as in you understand that what has happened will deeply influence the outside world.
The organisms brought to earth via portal storms don’t necessarily have to have common ancestry, as the combine’s conquest likely brought each of xen’s inhabitants there independently. It would, however, be interesting to truly highlight the differences of each organism, or perhaps the ability of certain ones like the head crab to adapt very quickly.
In terms of game-play, I would want to change the camouflage the grunts wear (despite the fact it actually makes them more visible) and change it to something reasonable. I would also want to go the high-def route and make the standard rifle an m4.
That’s it for now, i have a huge list of ideas for half life 2, but this sounds more like a classic half life thing.
I wouldn’t re-imagine Half-Life 1, it’s far too epic and cool to be re-imagined. As for Half-Life 2, well I would change pretty much everything and make it more in the vein of Half-Life 1. I like Half-Life 2, but it pales in comparison to the first game, and it never seemed a proper sequel Half-Life 1, not to me anyways.
Reboot in on IW engine and keep all the gameplay from cod
Commando pro all the way
In that case, Jacques wouldn’t get a whole hell of a lot done. Seriously, I’d like to see co-op and verses gameplay in a reboot.
Half-Life: Deathmach and Half-Life: Decay are what you’re looking for.
My guess is that Black Mesa Co-Op will be released a while after the mod itself as an ‘update’ or ‘addon’
