Half-Life reboot/reimagination

Fucking truth

You fight space cowboys with a crowbar that shoots lasers. And cheese.

I would rather have your name being Gordon Frohman.

If I were to “reboot” the game somehow you would play as Gordon Frohman and have to go throw all the situations he has had to go throw.

Oh hey look at this: https://www.moddb.com/mods/cleaners-adventures

In my reboot, the setting would move to Europe, more specifically in Switzerland. The main character’s name would be Jacques Villeneu and would be a scientist at CERN, working on the Large Hadron Collider. The experiment goes wrong and a portal from another dimension opens right in front of your eyes. From there, an army of advanced aliens invade earth through the portal.

Your immediate mission is to lockdown the facility and find a way out to the surface. However, right before you reach the surface, a portal opens up on you and you get sucked in into their dimension, where you find out that the aliens planned to invade earth a long time ago but just didn’t have the means to do so, until the LHC experiment occurred. A lot of technobabble is used to explain how they did it.

Now you have to find a way to shut down the portal from their dimension, at the cost of you getting stuck in there.

At the end of the game, right before you close your eyes for the last time, a mysterious figure appears. He tells you did a good job and has more work for you in the future.

In this reboot, a fire axe replaces the crowbar and Jacques sports a mustache (he’s french) and an experimental force field around his body instead of a HEV suit.

WARNING: INCOMING GAME.
WARNING: INCOMING GAME.

I’d tap that.

instead of merely trying to escape the research facility, you are transported to an alien world, in which you must escape and eventually destroy the big bad alien attempting to go through and enslave your world.

wow, not much different at all. I merely replace “research facility” with “alien world”

It’s different because he’s french. Instead of med-packs, you have baguettes and the health dispenser now give out camembert cheese to go with the bread. And the vending machines give out champagne.

wow. it hought this was a serious thread.

damn…

holy shhh…fff…

just damn…

What? You’ve never been in France?

who? me?

actually, no, i haven’t.

I would make something like this: It’s just another day as a citizen of a city of New Mexico wich is heavily close to Black Mesa. You are looking at the stars one night when a Xen portal opens right in front of you, you enter on it and some vorts capture you. Then the xenians start to experiment on you and they turn you into an alien grunt, then you are sended to Black Mesa to fight for the great scape of the incoming evil (from the combine that moved Nihilianth to Xen.) And get a safe base of operations wich would obviusly be Black Mesa if you succeed conquering it. Then after killing over every single human you find on the labs a big explosion breaks a wall and a heavily damaged apache falls Over Black Mesa. This is the signal that the human army (HECU) arrive to black mesa. You kill every single survivor from the crash and then you get shot from the back. You awake inside a lab. Trapped on a capsule. (Yes, the alien grunt that you find in the chapter questionable ethics.) Gordan then frees you and shoots you, he thinks that you died but you awake and you have all your human Memory back. You charge against a portal that got opened right on that room and you get teleported back to Xen. You get over nihilianth’s room and shoot at him. He then says: You failed me and kills you. END.

Edit: also I would add a secret ending that you can only unlock at hard difficulty. That you see yourself and you close the eyes, you walk to the light and you wake up in front of G-man and he tells you: I have a work for you, wich could make you turn back to normality. If you want it, enter in the portal if not… well rest in peace and face your destiny.

Things I would change about Half Life:

  1. Give a reason why he’s so good with guns, ie he’s a gun enthusiast, he was in the military, etc.
  2. Give him a speech impairment, a real reason why he can’t talk.
  3. Don’t make the Black Mesa incident an accident, that’s so implausible, so make Breen a mad scientist or something.
  4. I agree with Maxey that it should happen at the LHC.

Please explain to me how that makes it more plausible?

The game : Government funded facility messing around in things it shouldnt be fucks up.

Your idea : Mad scientist builds massive underground facility in order to summon monsters from another dimension.

Im not debating over which idea is better, just which is more plausible.

Yeah I guess you’re right… They just need to make more emphasis on the fact that the scientists explored Xen and took specimens from it before the resonance cascade. Maybe make it so the crystal that caused the cascade was important to Nihilanth for some reason and that’s why he waged war.

Just make something besides “Oops, I accidentally the entire planet.”

Fixed.

Fixed.

Also heyitsfree, the whole point of Half Life was to keep you in the dark. You were supposed to wonder about what was happening. You never were really supposed to understand what was going on. Even now we don’t fully understand what really happened. And look how much fun everyone’s had making theories and discussing possibilities. Valve likes to create mysteries, and we like to explore the possible answers. Well, most of us anyways.

Just like with LOST!!

Seriously, the only thing I would change would be giving a reason for Gordon to be so good with firearms.
I don’t know, maybe he was a physicist (like in the game) just that he was receiving training by BMS (we are never told why, but the administration wanted to send a team of researchers to explore Xen and was giving them survival training).

Have you forgotten that the Hazard Course for HEV-wearing personnel includes firearms training? Every scientist who had to wear a HEV suit received weapon’s training.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
