Half Life and the Matrix

I’m sure I’m not the first person to realize that there are some similarities between Half Life and the Matrix. It’s hard to say if it’s intentional or not, since they were only released a year apart.

Agent Smith and the G-Man. They’re both shadowy government-like figures (but they don’t actually work for the government). They both wear suits. They both have very distinctive, drawling kinds of voices.

The Gluon gun and the gun that Cypher uses to injure Tank and kill Dozer. The particle stream that they emit looks very similar, and they both make a very similar sound.

That’s all I can think of at the moment.

One man who can take on any number of enemies and succeed.
Zombies! Oh wait no.

There is no crowbar.

I never saw a crowbar in the Matrix.
Gordon can’t fit in a phone.

Mystery solved.

follow the white scientist

Both series have a similiar vibe. Especially the quote “one man can overcome any number of enemies and succeed”, those are really similair.

Yeah, lots of video games and movies have similar themes.

Well, when I watched all three parts a few weeks ago I thought The Matrix has rather some similarities with Portal:

  • First of all Neo wakes up as a kind of slave between millions of other slaves for a certain purpose of a powerfull machine. GLaDOS also has a huge storage full of people, or rather testsubjects, for only one purpose: testing

  • Neo is The Chosen One, the one who will find his way to the core of the machines so he can end this war. Though he manages to conclude peace with the machines. In Portal, Chell destroys GLaDOS, but in Portal 2 she manages to escape by making peace with GLaDOS either.

  • The location is an isolated world, an artificial place like The Matrix. The protagonist tries to escape it. So does Chell in the Aperture Science Enrichment Center, an underground facility build for a special purpose.

  • Another important fact: Almost everything is managed by machines and computers, as well in The Matrix as in Portal.

So much for now, maybe I’ll find more things to write down.

There are only so many plots in the world, there are bound to be similarities.

Mario can overcome any number of enemies and succeed

Not the way I play.

heh. Nice one.

Matrix is based on Alice in Wonderland(Follow the white rabbit, red or blue pill), everybody knows that.

So you basically say that Half Life and Alice in Wonderland are somehow similar.

Well, in both there’s some crazy shit going on, so…yeah.

I think HL and teh matrix are similar becuz they both hav humans as the opressed race hurr durr.

Another day, another troll post.

Heyyy I see no troll here!

troll. but I kinda know what he means.

It’s not “based on” Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland. The Matrix references it and has some loose relations to it plotwise, but it’s not “based on” it. That’s like saying Star Wars is “based on” Dune.

The only thing in common… Is that they rock, but their sequel sucks.
