Half Life 3

There was never any doubt that it’s fake.

The site is now back up. The general layout has been slightly changed with the Lambda log pushed further up the page.

Maybe it hasn’t changed, I was just on the site with my laptop as opposed to my workstation.

Did anyone see the Australian Christmas TF2 comic or the hidden image of the Aurora Borealis?

Nope, stopped caring about TF2 some days after it went F2P, that was the last nail in the coffin for me. TF2 was already going down the drain for me before that because it took over too much of my time and there was like a new update 4 times a week back then adding promo items and fucked up the gameplay.

Pretty convinced it’s fake. I hope that Valve do use that logo though. It’s perfect.

Fake or not, this website has a very nice design to it. If there were gonna be an official announcement website for Half-Life 3, I think this one would have gotten the ‘feel’ right.

Anyway, here’s something to help fuel the HL3 fire.

Everyone’s general consensus: It’s definitely Valve, but it’s also definitely fake.

WHaT? :meh:

Mmmmmm… toasty…

Here’s the pic with color and contrast enhancements to make the Aperture logo more apparent; in case there was anyone (like me) who had trouble seeing it.

Jesus fucking christ. Why are you people so easily fooled by this shit? I could make a fake website like this and nobody would be able to tell the difference.

even a tumblr, man.

Now dear boy you weren’t listening, i didn’t say in the first week, and ofcourse i was speeking metaforicly and i don’t know how you think it will sell crazy, if we are the only ones excited. (+ the price for HL3 can’t be high if there is no MP, sad fact but it’s true, this is how the world works)

For a fact there are no companys that care for there customers they may say so but not do, while they care for profit, and they will make some test to prove this. I also said this couldn’t not be a test but a way of hint, some kinnda PRETEASER, or it could also be fake

Whoa, are you some sort of genius businessman? I’m surprised Valve hasn’t hired you yet, seeing as you know exactly how well, to only whom (we) and for how much it will sell.

Seriously, who’s “we” in your picture? Just this forum? Have you any idea how many millions of copies have the latest Valve games sold? Do you actually think Valve games are some sort of niche market? They may not sell as much or as fast as the latest Call of Duty, but they’re still some of most successful and fastest selling games of all time. Valve is a worldwide success story and their games sell to a multitude of markets from the PC hardcore crowd to the casual console crowd and everything in between. They don’t need to do this kind of teaser site shit, they are absolutely sure a game like HL3 would sell millions of copies right on release day.

I have no idea where you’re getting your facts from, but since when is there some kind of law that stipulates that single-player only games should be cheaper than games with a multiplayer component? If that were true then games like Skyrim or Arkham City wouldn’t have cost 50 bucks when they were released, since they’re single-player only. And who’s to say HL3 is sp only? We know absolutely nothing about the game and for all we know it could be a full fledged game with sp, mp and co-op all in the same package, more than justifying full-price.

Seriously, stop talking out of your ass, it makes you look like a moron.

Il will sell crazy until is cracked :stuck_out_tongue:

And then it will keep selling like crazy after that.

Valve is one of the few companies that even die hard pirates would buy from without question.

I can affirm that from personal experience :3

We aren’t fooled.

You do raise fair points concerning the method of coding, and these would be valid disqualifiers for legitimacy… however this is Valve your talking about here. You need to be careful about legitimacy claims based on the antiquated nature of the delivery system.

This is the same company that published a game in which the end credits were comprised entirely of amber monochrome Terminal font and ASCII art. The same company that imbedded audio files of Morse Code and SSTV in not one, but two games.

SSTV was developed in 1957 by Copthorne Macdonald and Samuel Morse began developing Morse Code back in 1836! These antiquated forms of communication predate the “antiquated” HTML methods by decades and centuries.

I suggest that “we” keep an eye on that site.

  1. For seeing if it stays up and if it changes.
  2. Keep checking the code every couple days. It would be just like Valve to imbed hints in the HTML code that are commented out.
  3. Periodically check the image to see if it changes. Some could see the Aperture logo, some couldn’t. That would be another “Valve like” hint delivery method, to put in a message that has the contrast wash it out.

On the broad scale, I also recommend keeping an eye on all Valve image releases going forward for Steganographic imbeds.

However

With all that said… I do think that the veracity is questionable. Half Life 2, Episode 3 has developed to become the greatest vaporware since Duke Nukem. Since Duke finally released, someone had to take the torch. Even Valve employees are trolling us. Why is that a troll? The logo is wrong. The lambda and the 3 are in the wrong place. (Lambda should be in the circle, the 3 in the corner) It looks like a cheap overseas hack the bootlegger they got wrong.

Episodic content delivery was a good idea, but an epic failure.

  • HL1 released November 19, 1998
  • HL2 released November 16, 2004
  • Ep1 released June 1, 2006 (two years later)
  • Ep2 released October 10, 2007 (one year later)
  • ???
  • December 2011, Profit! :stuck_out_tongue:

Seriously though, with that dev cycle we should have seen Ep3 for Christmas in 2008 and HL3 in 2010 if the primary titles followed a strict six year cycle or in 2014 if it was based off the last episodic title.

I can’t help but get the feeling that Ep3/HL3 is the biggest prank since Andy Kaufman.

Where does that leave us? Trust nothing without proof, trust no one without evidence.

Anyone seen this??

Meh.

Good example of Pareidolia I think.

The #3 is a reach and the Lambda seems to be poorly formed.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
