Half Life 2

You should do some research the next time before you go out and get a laptop, I.E. using google will do wonders for reviews on the stupid thing.

You want a decent gaming laptop if you want to play ANY source game on that machine, even if the game’s 10 years old (the engine has been updated as of 2009/10). My desktop is custom built but it’s only 6 years old at least… only had to replace the video card because it blew up on me.

It runs every source game I have on max settings will little problem. Yeah I get a lower frame rate don’t particularly give a crap. I have 50-60 on average in heavy combat, it’s enough for me.

I found out the hard way I don’t want to run Crysis on maximum settings… lol Yes I did that on purpose I wanted to stress my machine out a little more to see its limitations.

By the way, Alien Ware is a waste of money. Don’t bother.

I would’ve gotten a gaming PC, but the laptop was ORIGINALLY designed for schooling. That didn’t happen, so I slapped some stuff to it and started gaming. the games work alright, with a few problems. It’s nothing major.

HL2 doesn’t start all the time, but the other games do. Left For Dead starts perfectly. All of them run on max settings with heavenly performance. I’m not quite sure what the frame-rate is though…

I’m guessing Crysis is the reason why you changed video cards? lol.

I totally agree. It is a waste of money…

I have used Dell PC’s for almost 9 years now, and they work fine for me. It’s just HL2 that is acting weird. But yeah you have a point… and I can’t just return it so oh well! I will just deal with it. I just wanted to know what was up with it.

No, my video card of one year decided to fuck up. It just stopped working for some odd reason. (NVIDIA 8600) Sent it in got it replaced with a 9600 GT. That was about 6 months ago.

When I try to run it on max settings for Crysis (even in windowed mode) it freezes up about a minute in. Hence why I shouldn’t do that… I told a few of my class mates they chuckled.

Half-Life 2’s code is older than the episodes, that may be the reason why it’s doing what it’s doing. I’m speculating here… and going also off the fact it won’t load cfg files that are originally apart of it’s library AkA “Skill.cfg” Have to load it manually.

2 things.

  1. There is an edit button for your posts, so use that instead of double posting… if you don’t you’ll be asking for a MAJOR flaming.
  2. to check your frame rate for source games, just enable your console and type “Net_Graph 1”

Get a Mac, it has spellcheck and will run your Steam games.

^ Some not all… I still find the PC a better platform for gaming…

im hoping this is sarcasm.

Update your graphic drivers If ATI go to their site. if Nvidia they got a Graphics driver scanner for you.

Oh!

lol

Probably, now that you mention it.

Have I really been double posting??? :expressionless:
Could’ve sworn I was editing…

“Could of” does not exist in the English language. You mean “could’ve”.

:3

edit: while we’re at it… :awesome:

Well, yeah… if you’re going to nitpick…

So why is no body asking the obvious question? All this discussion about spelling which is completely off topic and irrelevant is just sullying the effectiveness of this thread to the point that no one seems to realize that we have NO IDEA what kind of graphics this laptop has. It could be a damned useless intel onboard for all we know (not incredibly unlikely for a dell laptop that was bought for use as a school computer and not for gaming by a kid who obviously by reading his posts knows very little about computers).

So to break through all the useless conjecture posed so far in this thread let me be the first to ask you straight out, What graphics chip does your laptop carry?

(I know someone on the first page hinted at this question but everyone was so up in arms over the utterly irrelevant matter of the way the kid types to notice)

Welcome to Black Mesa. have a very safe day.

you forgot productive

It is a Intel HD Graphics (Core i3)

Intel graphics are shit.

have you tried verifying the cache files?

^
Jerry your sig makes me lol, it can provide hours of entertainment for the morons that fill the net.

What maxey said. I’d upgrade to an ATI or NVIDIA card.

You need to research the hardware on it before buying the PoS, meaning actually do some research. Get the catalog with all the integrated hardware it has (or take down the model name of the laptop) and look it up on the net.

I’ve done this many’a time for my computer illiterate friends pick out a laptop. It’s as simple as taking down the model number of the card and just popping it into Google with “reviews” at the end.

The “awake” one is grammatically correct. There is no space between a and wake… unless you’re using some obscure dialect of English.

haha, yeah :stuck_out_tongue:

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
