Half Life 2 + Windows 7 = FAILS

well, last night i searched for a torrent and it has already finished. bad news is… it has the same glitch, so its clearly not the game what’s causing it.

ive already downloaded soundcard drivers, chipset drivers, everything. i dont know what else to do.

hey arcade, what is your spec? One of my housemates is having exactly the same issue on a sony vaio laptop. He decided to get it after seeing me playing it. And has never had the pleasure.

its a crappy computer, i use my dad’s computer mainly for gaming, but in this one i’ve always been able to run HL2. if you want the specs anyway:

microprocessor: intel Dual core 2x 1.60 Ghz
RAM: 1Gb DDR2
Graphics: Intel® 82945G Express Chipset Family (256 MB)
3D accelerator: Intel GMA 950

its an onboardvideo card :frowning:

im now downloading other drivers to see if they work.

Did you do an upgrade from WinXP to 7 or do a clean install?

Upgrades have been known to cause unusual issues like this.

clean install. im puzzled. its not really such a big deal because i can play the rest of the game just fine, but i liked the opening sequence :’(

EDIT: could someone upload a savegame from where gordon gets out of the train? ill miss the gman speech but ill be able to at least play the rest of the level. thanks in advance

reinstall a new DX and btw your graphics card sucks

i don’t need you to tell me that, i know it is. ( hence the "its an onboardvideo card :frowning: ")

This is a crap shoot but try forcing a lower dx level and see if it passes that part. I remember doing that hack to my friends older system to get Unreal tournament 3 working on his laptop.

already done that. im now at my dad’s house and I started a new game just to check if it still worked and it obviously did.

In Steam games right click on HL2, Properties, Set Launch Options, put this:

+mat_forcehardwaresync 0

My mate’s laptop has a pretty similar spec, more ram, but I’m nearly sure the graphics are similar, a mobile version of the same technology.

If any of these solutions work, post it up, my mate is currently away, but I can have a tinker when he comes back next week.

I have a GMA950 on one of my computers, forcehardwaresync 0 is the only solution that worked for me.

What does it do, exactly?

I guess it disables intel’s revolutionary insta-crash features that they include in every GMA chip.

Intel should not be allowed to be in the GPU market, they make decent CPU’s but their graphics chips fail on so many levels.

Yeah, when people get a new operating system they need to get c++ and directx again, and update there hard drive ect. :retard:

Windows 7 already comes with .net 2.0 and visual c++ sp1

You might need to install dxwebinstall though, some old dll’s are not included with dx11

To be for fact, I don’t set up my own computer. My dad does it for me!

didnt work. :[ (dont know if i added it correctly though)

Did you try lowering the Resolution and/or lowering the Model and Texture quality in the advanced video options already?

I have a similar system setup and was getting the same stuttering problem. Setting 800x600 resolution and medium model & texture quality pretty much fixed it for me.

If you are using ffdshow or similar codec pack, add the Half Life executable as an exception.
