Half Life 2: Update on Steam (Available now!)

Wow, my created thread in just 3 pages earned a sentence carried out by the big fury man himself.

Guys, seriously stop talking off-topic.
Anyway guys, what’s your thoughts about the mod?
If anyone played it on this forum…

Also danielsangeo has a weird/cute/fuzzy looking avatar picture that always surprises me…

Liked it. It has a lot of subtle changes that makes the whole game look slightly better and fixes lots of bugs. (it also gave me an excuse to play and steam-perfect HL2 again) If you, however, expect a massive graphical overhaul youre going to be disappointed. If I recommend anybody to play hl2 im going to recommend them to play the update-version as it is literally just HL2 but slightly better. (I would never suggest anybody playing hl2 the first time, to play it with CM )

no wallace breen is looking like full emo Adolf Hitler

Wow those models just get worse and worse each time a new version of cinematic mod is released. Let’s hope the last version really is the last version!

Honestly, update doesn’t look that great in terms of bringing HL2 to modern specs. To me it’s more of an ENB, which is alright. I prefer Cinematic mod 13, minus most of the models and the batman music, as it adds far more to the dynamic…

It was never said that the goal of the Update was to bring HL2 up to modern specs. They fixed lots of bugs and brought it up to the visual level of Episode 2. Theres also lots of subtle changes that just make the game look and run better that you probably wont even notice unless theyre pointed out. The update changes nothing about the artstyle and feel of Half-Life 2, in contrast to CM, which “reinterprets” HL2 in a way that some may like but others (like me) find it strange an unfitting.
HL2:Update is an update and nothing more. its not a remake and therefore shouldnt be expected to be one.

And it does just fine with that, I’m just saying I prefer Cinematic mod. I know of all the hate towards it, but with the grafitti removed and the vanilla-style models and soundtrack, it’s not half bad.

When Valve first converted Half-Life 2 to the VPK/Steam pipe system it was said they had updated the game, but it was only some minor engine fixes.
I wonder if they knew about Filip Victor’s work and just decided to let him do it. Otherwise one would think they would have made some updates to the game themselves.

It is not like the Half-Life 2 (non-update) game up on Steam now is the original version released in 2004 anyways. People still need to grab that from other sources for various reasons.

Just installed it. I’ve always loved things like this that are just small little tweaks and improvements here and there.

The light rays and improved indoor lighting is very nice.
