They wanted it to be a collectors item. And although i don’t encourage its use, in this case, it seems to be accurate.

Its just an insight to how the development process worked for Valve during HL and HL2. If there is a cheap way for you to get hands on it, get it. Otherwise its not need to enjoy the games.

My friend sent me his PDF version, very insightful book though i wouldn’t fork out 80 dollars for it, i think it’s IGN or Gamespot or something that have an expansive behind the scenes look on the development of Half life 2, look it up, it’s pretty good.

Yeah, you would not need it to understand the story. But if you’re a big fan of Half-Life it’s a great read.
