Half Life 2 in HL1 Graphic

So there IS some good to christianity

A few years ago I made a goldsrc map of my school, it had 3 floors and a small area outside. Weapons lying around everywhere and all, a pretty fun DM map overall.

Itā€™s just a little bit harder than mapping for source, and since we have to create less detail rather than more detail, it should take alot less time than a mod like BM.

Also I agree about just doing a few chapters and not the whole game.

Yeah, maybe a proof-of-concept at first.

Do the intro. If you can pull of brush/model-based versions of the shader overlays, youā€™re the right people for the job.

The only exception to the fake shader/normal map textures would be water.

Yeah, there is shader water for HL. This particular version requires SoHL, which has many of the mapping features added in HL2. such as parenting (movewith in SoHL) and multiple models for NPCs without extra NPC types.

Everybody get the fuck out of the way, Ramā€™s in a bad mood.

Dont bother! Im a Quake-GoldSrc-Source mapper and Id rather spend my time making some kickass campaign then copying half-life 2 into goldsrc. No point already played the game 20 times over.

Then what the poopers are you doing on a forum of a mod that recreates a game everybodyā€™s played 20 times over?

Geez! Donā€™t let anyone see that on your harddrive, or youā€™d have a big time explaining your homicidal tendencies and your plans to run amok in your school!

Ehmā€¦ When I was 11 and had to pick a high school, I visited a school that had a showcase of the final year studentsā€™ projects. One project was the entire campus built on the Duke Nukem 3D engine, complete with teacherswalking around, and guns to pick upā€¦ And well yea.

Obviously I went to that school.

I had the same thought.

Well, two things come to my mind by reading this:

  1. What does the topic have to do with Black Mesa?
As the description of this board says: ā€œThe Cafeteria, General enquiries and discussions about the mod and its developmentā€. I would say, this is an off-topic discussion thread and should be moved into the right board.

  2. It is interesting, but you will lose your motivation in time. Why? Because it is a mammoth project (requires a big team of skilled and reliable members and many years of development time) + most people (including me) will think: Why should I play the worse version of a game?

I mean, HL2 lives from its physics, facial animations and so many other things.
And it really doesnā€™t matter what you try to program into GoldSrc, it will not be nearly as good as in the original.

Sorry guys, but in my opinion, it simply isnā€™t worth the efforts at all.
Especially, if you would put so many time and work into it, only to have a fistful of people who would like to play it in the end.

I think youā€™re right.

bad idea we expect the new source engine features we donā€™t want to go back to goldsource

flyaway888 how much experience point do you still need to evolve into punctuationmon so you can write stuff that does not require people to sit down for 20 minutes to read what you just said you know that stuff is really kinda annoying and it often allows others to completely interpret the thing you just said in a totally different way and that is no fun now is it and also i do not really like your name because it is so weird but then again it is not like you are that very active on these forums so all is well in the end did you guys see the new apple tablet btw that stuff was kinda disappointing i expected a lot more when the rumors were going strong

:frowning:

That means thereā€™s no chance I could play hl2 on my pentium 3 desktopā€¦

Hey Kane, Ram, Catz & all - does this sound familiar to you?

The major difference is, that in the case of BM, it is worth all the efforts in the end.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valveā€™s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
