Half Life 2 in HL1 Graphic

Or so you’d think… I get about 9 fps due to my terrible graphics card and laptop. However all goldsrc engine games run perfectly fine.

Motives of why it is NOT possible to do a hl2 in hl1 graphics anyways:

  1. Vehicles. You can’t drive vehicles in hl1.
  2. Physics. Example: Ravenholm, is a pure physics test map.
  3. Gravity gun
  4. Source factor, (unless you turn the rebels, combine, antlions and any other kind of hl2 creature AI into a hl1 like AI and give them weapons that they can use.)
  5. Combine balls desintegration effect.
  6. Alyx/barney/etc regeneration health…

Anyways, who and why would someone preffear to play hl2 with hl1 graphics? (except for those who have a rock with a screen painted on it instead of a computer…)

Oh yes you can I’ve seen maps in CS 1.6 that allow it, half life can do it too.

but you can choose the direction where the vehicle will be moved or does it have to do it automatically like the Ze_ vehicles of CSS?

The idea wasn’t to faithfully recreate all of HL2’s content and features on the HL1 engine, that’s impossible. The idea was recreate as much of the HL2 levels and plot within the limitations of the HL1 engine, even if that meant cutting a lot of content because of engine limitations.

You havn’t played any of the classic crazy tank maps appearantly… Yes you can have complete control of vehicles on the hl1 engine… man I miss those maps… having the huge tanks glitch through each other, funniest shrit ever man.

  1. Not in HL1, but you can in GoldSrc. It’s called coding.
  2. Primitive physics have been added to the GoldSrc engine by other mod teams. Coding.
  3. Primitive gravity guns have been made for the GoldSrc engine by other people. Coding.

  6. Big fucking whoop? We were never trying to recreate HL2, we were trying to re-imagine it. The fact that allies don’t regenerate health is of no consequence. And also, really easily faked.

And I think you mean HL1 engine; none of your points had anything to do with graphics.

It’s an awesome idea but someone is already doing it, it’s called Half-Life 2: GoldSrc.

Yeah I guess I’m not the first one to mention it on here then! But I’m extremely sad to see that the mod died… I would love to see this done and play it, and I imagine there is less work with a mod like this than a Source mod, so it may not be such an endlessly huge project… But maybe it’s actually the opposite due to the technical challenges?
