Half Life 2: Episode 3 - Hang in there !

Looking at the March Madness thread where the game developers battle it out i come across a nice little document that many people will find interesting, not sure if it has already been noted or posted but hey, its episode 3

Will Half life 2: Episode 3 come before BlackMesa Source? Only time will tell.

This isn’t anything we don’t know, Doug Lombardi stated the same in an interview back in 2008.

Yeah, but at least its a reminder they’re working on it. Like the article says, some people really need reassurance, you know? :stuck_out_tongue:

[COLOR=‘Black’]oh god where is episode 3 come on valve please are you still thinking about it is it even coming out boo hoo hoo

We know, we been doing that since 2008.

So where’s the news?

More like hang in there because they felt like writing something about valve today.

I’ve read it and it specifically says we still don’t know if episode 3 is coming or not, or why after that massive cliffhanger has valve chosen to work on Portal 2, Left 4 Dead, Left 4 Dead 2, Dota 2, etc instead of working on their most successful series.

Actually if you followed the link it came from, you’d know that there was a full interview with Doug Lombardi. A very corporate history-ish interview that’s full of a bunch of pretty common questions, none of them quite news-worthy as I’m sure we’ve heard all of these answers in previous interviews.

They don’t want to rely only on one successful mark, if you know what I mean. When people think back to Valve in future, they will think: “Oh, you mean Valve? The developers of Team Fortress, L4D, Half Life, Portal?” and not just “Oh, Valve? The creators of Half Life?”

maybe it was more like: valve: “hey we got ourselves some money dooing the “deep” stuff, now let’s try something else(and more fun)!”

Why the fuck is Valve making Dota!? Can someone explain that one for me?

Because they somehow managed to obtain the rights and one of the original wc3 mod developers? It’s really a no-brainer.

They want to do something new.

Not how… I meant why… I don’t think the core of valve fans even care about playing this game more so than say ep3… It feels even more pointlesd and unwelcome as l4d2.

Gabe Newell’s a really big fan of the mod. I get the impression that getting Ice Frog was kind of his little coup, but I don’t know that for sure. It doesn’t really look like a major project for them though. It probably just has a tiny core team like Portal 1 and Alien Swarm.

Your assumption that Ep. 3 is delayed because they’re focusing on other games is probably false. There are 250 people at Valve. There are 30 working on Portal 2 and probably far less than that on Dota. Do the math.

He is a robot, he’s done the math.

You did do the math right?

Yeah, I mean It’s not like they’ve trademarked DOTA2 and DOTA3 and are doing a trilogy or anything.

That would have no effect on the core team for Dota 2, so I’m not sure what you’re getting at. Say it is as “big” of a team as Portal 2 – which seems unlikely. That’s 30 people.

Wait isn’t the Escapist that website where they had that battle of the developers (a simple poll war) and the abusive admins banned a bunch of people for posting “Go valve!”?

Valve has been doing a lot of stupid crap lately.

Founded in 2004, Leakfree.org became one of the first online communities dedicated to Valve’s Source engine development. It is more famously known for the formation of Black Mesa: Source under the 'Leakfree Modification Team' handle in September 2004.
