I know, this is probably never going to happen (find some even dumber thread to flame), but anyway: Half Life’s minimum system requirements are far exceeded by the iPhone/iPod Touch. The only conflict I can find is the OS. But hey, they ported Doom to iPhone, right?
Half Life will NEVER run on the iPhone/iPad/your shoe just forget about it, unless ARM processors suddenly gain the ability to emulate x86 instructions 100 times faster than the hardware allows.
If you’re really dying without HL on your iShitphone (understandable) you can download the HL mod for Doom 1… It only has the 2nd chapter and a bit of the 3rd, but no tram ride or any interesting gameplay really…
That’s why I said “I know, this is probably never going to happen”… I was just speculating.
I just wanted to say that the system requirements are far from being met, the architecture is so vastly different! For example, an iPhone coupled with a decent x86 emulator could load windows 95 in around 30 minutes, and give you a PC capable of minesweeper and solitaire, not even doom 1 would be playable in that environment.
What about the Droid? or the Nexus One? I know they are both more powerful than the iPhone. I have a Droid and there are applications on the Android Market (appstore without apples stupid restrictions) that allow you to overclock the phones the CPU. There is also a PS1 emulator for Android based phones like the Droid or Nexus One so maybe HL1 just might be able to run.
You can emulate Win95 on the iPad, and may be able to run it through there (albeit with terribad lag), but the emulator doesn’t run on the iPhone
hey ! where is that Half-Life on Doom engine thingy?
found this after a search on the net: https://www.moddb.com/mods/half-life-zdoom
but don’t know if it is this yet…
will be back.
if you ever wanted to know why doom runs on everything

Yeah the only way we could see HL on a non-intel compatible device, is if Valve decides to release the source code for goldsrc, which is unlikely due to it’s similarity to the source engine.
isnt hl basically the quake engine or something
modified quake engine
heavily modified quake engine
its definitely one of the better quake mods
I see what you did there.
I played the Half-Life PS2 version in an emulator on PC (pcsx2). I even set up the gamepad keyboard bindings so I could play it almost like the pc version (with mouse for look and WASD for movement). It was the bomb!
Also got the Dreamcast version of HL which I cant get to run in any of the emulators. It was a WinCE based DC game so it needs exact emulation (MMU).
I’m sure you can run HL on iPhone if you had the full source code and ported it. but running it via any emulation is not going to happen.
btw. I have purchased all Valve games so don’t give me any crap. Check my steam profile for proof.
I bet a powerful enough pocket PC could play the dreamcast version as every Win Mobile device runs WinCE.
If they manage to do that…then we’ll actually see Microsoft being a good company. (in other words) if that happens, we’re all gonna die.
Fucking necroposter.
Also how the fuck does this have anything to with Microsoft?!?! They didn’t make Half Life 1 or the iPhone.
I understand that. What I meant was… When Microsoft becomes a good company, the world is gonna end. Same goes for Half-Life 1 on the Iphone.
But it is possible.
Also, I wouldn’t mention anything out of order unless I was trying to make a point.
That’s just my way.
