Half Life 1 glitches

Try reinstalling it the entire way, so you can play without the disc.

I’ve reinstalled it the best I can, I still need the disk and the glitches are still there.

Is it fully patched? Probably won’t help, unfortunately.

I think your monitor may have some problems with high refresh rate, modern graphic cards don’t handle low resolutions very well.

The WON hl menu is in 640x480 and your video card could be trying to feed it in 100hz or more, because of some random bug in the video drivers.

I don’t know about the music, but my suggestion is to download the latest patch for WON hl or download a no-cd patch.

Yeah you might want to mess with compatability modes. Did this just happen recently, or has it been since some changes?

Its been happening since I got my new computer.

If there’s no pak0 in your Half-life/valve directory, either something got screwed up or that would be a pirated version

if you have no pak0.pak it’s 100% sure that your version is pirated

What are your PC specs, anyway?

I’ve installed the game on 2 computers, I don’t think that can be considered pirating.

As for PC specs…
Processor- AMD Athlon XP 2600+, ~1.9GHz
Memory-3072MB RAM
DirectX 9
Graphics-Radeon 9800 PRO
Sound-SoundBlaster X-Fi Xtreme Audio

I hope these are good enough, I’m not very computer savvy.

For getting it on steam.

Try changing the screen resolution or display driver

It turns out I was looking in the wrong place, it DOES have pak0.PAK.
The duplicate CD thing doesn’t help, and I’ll try changing the gamer resolution.

Try switching between software and d3d, software looks better IMO, but it has more problems with newer drivers.

software mode looks like shit.
unfiltered textures :S
switching between OGL and D3D is better I think.
anyway, it’s strange, HL WON version runs perfectly here.
and BTW, isn’t the software mode made for less driver complications?

Yeah, d3d used to be less stable and people chose software mode for stability, but you never know, the code for goldsource had alot of weird glitches involving the main menu, especially in CS.

Also you’ll find that d3d and openGL look and behave exactly the same way, because they’re just different wrappers, one is closed source and the other is open source. If openGL doesn’t work you’ll need to download the proper drivers for your graphics card.

How do I change it from software to OpenGL or d3d?

configuration->video->video modes->choose the mode on the right

Okay, thank you.

EDIT: Changing it to OpenGL fixed the houndeye problem, changing the game resolution fixed the menu screen, and I can live without music playing.

I used to have the same problem but I just reinstalled it.
